Between the wife and I, we've had a half dozen bikes with either "mini or fat bob" fuel tanks.
The only bags that we;'ve mounted on the tanks ae the small leather pouches that attach to the console and are maybe large enough for maybe a cell phone, etc.
THe problem in using these pouches is that there is a lot of vibration and sunglasses (or eyeglasses) can suffer "buffing" damage to theie lenses.
We've nearly always mounted the H-D brand "windshield bags/pouches" that are much more useful and easily accessed when the bike is in motion.
Hey OP. I've got one that I used on softails. Magnets on flaps, clear top flap as mentioned by others. PM me, I'll send it to you. It just hangs from my garage fridge these days.
If you are trying to open them at 80 MPH, yeah they will be a lot of trouble.
I've used tank bags on older bikes, they ended up scratching the tank.
I wouldn't put one on my Harley with a nice looking paint job. I'd rather put a duffle bag on the seat behind me.
The tank bag that I used on my Beemer had a textured neoprene bottom pad that was removable. The pad didn't collect or hold dirt, so I never had a problem with it.
On previous bikes I occasionally used a magnetic tank bag. I was concerned that dirt could collect on the bottom of the bag would scratch the tank. To prevent that I would put clear packing tape on the tank under the bag. Magnets still held well and the tape protected the tank. Easy to remove (leave a folded pull tab on the end of the tape) and minimal clean up when I removed the tape..
My need really isn't storage in general but rather accessible storage at 80mph.
Also, my Son has less accessible storage on his Heritage so I'm thinking of him as well.
We've got a 3000 mile trip planned for later this year to Deal's Gap and am looking for things to make the ride a little more convenient.
deals gap is idiotic on the weekends. I know its a must do but there's too much "hey y'all watch this " and "hold my beer" but there are amazing roads in the area only beaten by Colorado. Deals gap as the sun sets or during the week. Otherwise you're driving the Zamboni during olympic competition.

Shout-out to "Bikes and Boards" for donating a tank bag to my quest to fulfill my curiously.
After the freaking snow melts and it gets above 50 degrees out I'll go try it out and post a review.
