Default So I'm scratching my head looking for a Sportster

It seems every winter spring I contemplate looking for another Sportie. I would really love in order
a. mid 70s to early 80s Iron head
b. Evo era
c. TC era but a 1200

What would you guys consider a fair price for a nice, turn key, not a POS bike in each range? Everything im seeing either the seller is on glue with price or the bike is a POS.. Please dont tell me to buy a big twin, I have 2 modern and 2 vintage (family heirlooms..).

3k or under for the Evo and IH in my neck of the woods kebo. That’s depending on the shape but rideable. Up to 3500 for late model up to 02. I don’t even consider the 03 and newer rubber mounts. They are plentiful around the Atlanta area. There are some good deals on the rubber mounts also but I never look at them, they are harder to flip for some reason. G.

Rubber mount didn't start until 2004. Between 2004 and 2006 they were carbed, 07 and later FI. That said I'd look for an 02 or 03, the older non rubber mounted engine has a trap door to remove trans gears without splitting the cases like a Japanese bike. The 04 and up has no trap door.

Ironheads are cool and they can be built into beasts.

I've seen some very nice close to stock ironheads in North Alabama for around $3500. Nothing at the moment though.

I keep a steady eye on 1200 Evo's, pre-04. A realistic price on a well preserved model is around $3,500. But I have seen these asking prices going UP, not down, in the last couple years. I especially look for 1200-S models. Now these I see going for $3600 - $4500! They are hard to find, but for that money you can buy a much newer 1200. Of course asking price and selling price are 2 very different things.

And I agree that a lot of sellers are on crack.
