Damn, I almost wrote my bike off on the way to work this morning. Traffic was flowing about 80Kmh down the road - I noticed a man on a pushbike attacking branches on a tree at the side of the road - I took my eyes off the road for about 2 seconds to look at what he was doing. When I looked back at the road much to my surprise traffic had stopped and I only had about 35 meters left of my lane before I hit the last stopped car. Luckily it was a dual lane carriageway and as I panic braked i swerved into the right lane (which was less packed and had more room for braking - it was in the direction of my travel). It was a bit of a leap of faith as i didn't have time to check my mirror to see if I would be getting in the way of a car.
Luck was with me. I stopped in the right hand lane and there were no cars directly behind me there. I had travelled past the car in the left lane when I stopped in the right lane so I am sure I would have rear-ended him had I not swerved.....
Lesson learned - don't take your eyes off the road - even for a second... I thank God and my lucky stars my luck was with me and I didn't write off the bike...
It is so easy to get distracted....

80 km/hour for 2 sec.= 146 feet of blind travel. Glad you're OK!!
I did something similar but wasn't as lucky as you; totaled my 09 Low Rider. Lesson learned, the hard way.

Thanks Internet Troll, If I can save one person from being distracted and having an accident as a result the adrenaline rush of fear I experienced will have been worth it.
In that case, I’m glad you didn’t. Now, go buy a lottery ticket!
I just bought 18 games in tonight's powerball and 18 games for Saturday's Tattslotto. I used the winnings from my last week's ticket to offset the cost - so luck is with me!
had a sort of similar moment a few years back but mine didn.t end as lucky. I was headed down a locale backe road to my daughters softball game on a sunday. I was riding past a friends house and looked over to see if his truck was in the driveway. it wasn't but he had a shop out back so I looked a bit longer OH SHIIIIT! when I looked back at the car that had been 10 or 12 car lengths in front of me he was now RIGHT in front of me with his brakes on! I managed to miss hitting him as he turned into Eddies repair shop but I grabbed to much rear brake in a panic and then got off it too soon and high sided. after the x ray the ER nurse grabed my right elbow and said "this little ball right here is embedded in your left tricep .
