Riceburner,
High quality Chippewa and Red Wing Engineer Boots seem to be getting harder to find; where did you get yours?
I think Chippewa shut down the Missouri factory where they made their engineer boots about a year or so back, they are imports now. Red Wing started having their regular engineer's made in china several years ago, not sure if they are still making the Heritage line or whatever they called the premium boots made in USA.
If you keep an eye on ebay you can still find new, old stock of either brand. When they started shutting down the USA factories I bought enough pairs of both brands to last me probably more years than I have left. I don't have much choice when it comes to electronics but I refuse to buy shoes or clothing made in China.
As for the riding shoes that look like high tops, I have a pair with ankle protection, reinforced toes and heels, crush-resistant soles, etc. but honestly I don't think they would be much better than my Chuck All-Stars in a crash if my foot was pinned down.

Thanks for that. You are 100% correct, I read your post and did a search on ebay. Got very lucky, hard to find boots for my duck feet. Got a new pair of Chippewa Mens Boots Brown Leather Size 10 EE USA Made for $149. Stoked!
I wouldn't buy anything from revzilla, they promote gender confusion.
been riding in boots for 30 years, this year I experimented with high top tennis shoes with ankle padding during the heat. Much more comfortable. I feel more secure with boots on. Had boots chaps leather jacket gloves and helmet on 10 years ago when I went over the bars and broke my foot.
so I will encourage you to wear full leather, helmet, gloves and boots.
