Default Fairing Vent on 2020 and 2021 SGS

So, there was a thread recently about HD eliminating the flap to shut off the vent on the 2020 and 2021 SGS. Not sure if they did the same thing on the RGS or not. Any way, I searched and could not find it so,

I was a bit miffed about this also When I traded my 2019 for the 2020. I ride year round so, in the winter time was not able to shut the dam vent off. My solution was putting black duct tape over the vent top to stop the air. Worked ok for a while but, the force of the wind would eventually blow the tape up. Got tired of replacing and had a thought, the only difference in the fairings between 2019 and 2020 was the vent shut off. Checked with my dealer and he felt the vents were interchangeable. Took the chance and ordered the vent for a 2019.

Finally got it and went to install today. Very easy install, fit perfect and now, I can shut the dam vent off when I want and open it up when I want without having to pull tape off.

2019 Vent assembly:

I'm sure most of you know what the inside of the fairing looks like but, here a pic anyway. LOL

Forgot to take a pic of the assembly installed before I put everything back together along with my windshield bag so you can't see anything with the bag installed and I'm not taking it off for a pic. Sorry. LOL

Very easy install and only took about 15 minutes. Didn't even get a whole beer drank before I was done.

Why? I have a 2020. Neighbor has a 2019 with the vent shut off. The vent blows air up over my head, and I’m tall. I ride all year. That’s why they removed the shut off.

what you probably need is a different windshield.

Why?

Short answer is, "Because I can". LOL

Long answer, I have the 3 pocket windshield bag on my bike. With the vent open , it blows up the flaps on the bag (they are held closed with magnets). One time, they blew open and the air vortex sucked my registration and proof of insurance right out. Had to turn around and go back and find it. With the vent closed, that doesn't happen.

Ok?

same thing with the road glide. the top vent on the 20 and 21 still opens/closes, but the side vents through the fairing do not. fairly easy, and not to expensive to swap the vents out with the earlier style that have the door.

i'm always surprised when i hear someone say something like, 'i really like this bike, but not going to buy it because of the non closable vent'. really? you'll change bars, seats, shocks, etc. but a vent is a bridge too far? whatever.

Let me guess...you have the Kuyaken bag?

If so, the latest HD 3 pocket does not do this. I lit my Kury bag on fire because of that madness

Nope, it's the official HD bag. It is 3 years old so, there is that. LOL

I have the vent and HD 3 pocket bag on my 19 SG...the vent is always open as the air behind the fairing is smoother with it open. My bag flaps have never opened at all. And yes it's been in triple digits.

Gotcha. I cannot confirm, but I was told by one of the guys at the dealership that that the HD bag was changed in late '19 because of the flapping covers. At the time, there were none to be had, I had it on backorder for 4 months. I bought the POS Kury bag, and at any speed over 75, that thing would start flapping covers, **** flying out...this went on for 6300 miles, as this was the 2+ week trip I was on across the country.

Anyhow, I pitched that damn thing as soon as I got home, and my HD bag arrived a few weeks later. I leave my vent open all the time, and have held triple digit speeds without issue.

Would you happen to have the H-D part number and what was the cost? I have a 2020 Ultra Limited and the only thing that has kept me from mounting the H-D accessory three pouch windshield bag is the fact that it directs the air right at my face and when it's colder out, like below 40 degrees, it's just a little cold.
