I had to replace the battery in my bike, so I ordered one from Amazon. It came in a few days and everything is fine. I called an auto parts store and asked if I could drop off the old battery and they said yes. When I took the old battery in, they wanted to give me a core charge refund. I told them there was no core charge, I didn't buy it there, I bought it mail order, but they insisted I get the refund anyway, so I ended up with a ten dollar credit on a store card. Does this seem strange or have I just been out of touch?
Dunno how amazon and mail order does it but most places around me factor the core charge into the out the door price. They just make sure to point out the core charge to make sure people know about it so they know they can get money back if they return the old item. Telling someone "This is $50 on the shelf" and then pointing out how you'll get $10 of it back will work a lot better than just charging $50 and hoping they know enough to come back for the Core Charge.
Kind of like the bottle deposit tax. Each can is 5 cents, calculated in when you buy it, but if you go to any recycling center they'll give you the .5 cents per can back.
Need address I have 5 old battery's sitting around.
My Bil brags that he's got 24 dead/depleted car, truk, other batteries sitting in his shed. I know he's an idiot, he knows he can probably get a credit on most of them. WTF.
He's a hoarder of many things. His brother threatened to turn his name into that Hoarder show. Didn't faze him.
He doesn't live on the farm; he lives in a dump.
When I bought my LiFePo at HD, I took the old battery to AutoZone and told the guy I just wanted to turn it in for recycling, and I wasn't worried about the $$.
He "wasn't sure if he could take it" since I didn't buy a new battery from him. I pointed out again, that I wasn't concerned about the money, just wanted it recycled properly.
He got the manager, and she said that not only would they take it, but they would give me the core charge refund as well. Took it off my bill of other items I purchased.
Go AutoZone...
I bought a battery for my tractor at BatteriesPlus. My tractor was 200 miles away at my other property.
The guy gave me the core charge discount anyway.
I brought the old one back with me and turned it in after I went to the barn and changed it out.
