It was cold this morning, 19 degrees. Warmed the bike up for a bit ( evidently not long enough) and rode out for work. Got about a 1/2 mile from home and heard a pop and maybe felt a studder. Rode another block and began smelling oil burning so I pulled over. See this crack a oil spewing out. Rode it back home, got the truck and drove to work. Havent had a chance to look at it. Im hoping it just cracked from the cold and not something worse. Has anyone seen this?
I fear that but then wonder what could have let loose behind the cam cover and the bike still be able to run? If the tensioner, chain or gear broke the bike would have been dead right then and there.
From where the crack originates by the bolt, I'm thinking that the bolt was too tight and there was a weak spot in the cover. Then with the cold it was a perfect storm and it cracked.
How cold was it in Chicago this morning? Even though I have ridden mine in below freezing temps, maybe that had something to do with it?
Cold! Lol. It was 19 degrees F when I left. Warmed the bike up for a few minutes but I always try to avoid warming it too long because I dont want to wake the neighbors at 515am.
