Default Discount ESP - Yes or No ?

Ive read some nightmares about Discount ESP coverages. Some disagree. Im looking for an extended warranty company. Not all are bad. All on my Dodge trucks were excellent but offered by the manufacturer.

so the poll ....

I think the HD ESP is abt as good as they get. Veering off to a non-HD (as I did once) is fine so with my VERY limited experience, I'd just go with the cheapest if the coverage is =. So hairymoth above is likely right on the nose correct.

Now..........whether you should even go for one is another question. For which FWIW I do not do any more. It is like betting against yourself. IMO

Check all of your options and the different coverages that are offered BEFORE you commit and be sure to pay very special attention to the items (i.e. aftermarket mufflers/exhaust, trailer hitch etc.) if you are planning on doing upgrades during the life of your ESP.

To my understanding both Discount and the ESP the dealers offer are the same 3rd party outfit. When checked coverages and terms were identical, difference was the price tag.

I've got Discount but never had to use it.

Tire and wheel from them is a no brainer, do it.

I had the Harley ESP, plus wheel & tire coverage, through my dealer. I honestly think the best move is to negotiate as hard as you can through the dealer to get the lowest price you can, instead of going outside to an unknown entity.

All ESPs are for the math impaired. They are all in business to make money. They don’t make money if everyone gets saved by them. Statistically, you are better off putting the cost in a jar, in case you need it.

Find the overall cost of the ESP and use that figure to compare possible repair costs you might encounter during the life of that policy. That's why some vehicles I chose to get everything I can, like my diesel truck, and the Honda my wife and daughter use, I didn't opt for it. Same goes with the bike. Factory warranty expires and I'll replace what breaks with better parts. (Fingers crossed my engine blows, I'll get a 131 crate.)

Humm .. not always the case.

I had a 06 Dodge Ram Mega Cab.. one of those known problems. The a/c worked fine but there was a crappy .50 cent actuator that swung the vents open / closed that broke.
Only way to fix it was to remove the entire dash. It was a few years ago and came in at over what I initially paid for the extended warranty. Again .. it was Dodges plan, though. This did happen somewhere in the middle of the plan time / mileage limits.
