This. We can pull up are pants and grump about the good 'ole days or we can accept and move on. I haven't been to Bike Week in 5 years. When I do go back, it will be to see old friends and reminiscence. The only thing that I can't accept are those radio riders who think we want to hear their music while cruising Main Street.
My last Bike Week was in 1996 and I only live a couple hours away. I drove the truck over on the last Friday from '93 to '96 just to go to the swap meets.
Bike Time here in Muskegon Michigan is wild enough for me. Sandusky Bike week on Ohio was fun but too far to go anymore. 6 hr. ride from the house. I'll just look at the pictures.
I live in Sandusky, so it's right in my backyard! Covid cancelled it the last two years, but it's a GO this year!
man i feel sorry for those people over there through this weekend. rain and going to get cold. get you some Florida winter. i really feel for the ones camping. last time i camped there was 86
I was supposed to be there Wed-Sun last week but then had a business trip to Miami on Mon-Tues. I drove down Sunday the 27th and was going to fly to Miami and back to Daytona. My business trip got cancelled so I was there the whole week before. The weather was ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS. The bikes started to really roll in on Thursday. I was able to go to most places with lighter crowds which was nice. But since my buddy couldn't go, I got a little bored. Left on Saturday afternoon. Glad I picked the right week weather wise.
I bought my first Harley in 1983, a Sportster. I rode it to Daytona , had a good time.
Came home and traded it on a SuperGlide.
Just got back the other day from Daytona on my StreetGlide..
Idiots in cages are what make me nervous..
...The 80s were when the bad element really showed up during bike week, cops starting cracking down, bars started banning colors. It became so bad, the town elders came close to completely shutting bike week down in the late 80s....
Yeah, I left Orlando in 1987, but I remember it being not friendly over there at that time. They started those "Motorcycle Theft Prevention Task Force" squads (or whatever the name was) that would impound your bike if there was ANYTHING wrong, like engine & frame numbers, tag issues, etc. You were guilty until proven innocent. One guy sued to get his bike back and won, and they returned it - the frontend and the chassis separated, they kept the neck with numbers, which was hacked off with a Sawzall.
Biggest difference is the people, not so much the rallies. Back in the day the average age of folks there was probably 25-30 and wild as hell.
Yes and no, most grandmothers you see now where the babes flashing **** on the main drags back when. Flip side is they could flash back then and it was expected, now nice pair of puppies pop out they go to jail.
Lets not talk about the outright wallet rape now verses when it was still fun tp play back when.

This is Florida so it's not rare to get rain during Bike Week. Plus being right on the cusp of the start of "monsoon season." Our rainy season will start in April and we will get at least some rain almost every day until the beginning of October. Coupled with the heat and high humidity which often makes being out on the road in the sun almost unbearable when it doesn't rain. So much for year around riding, eh?
Well, were riding to Sturgis this year during the rally, 1:400 miles each way. We are riding baggers. Ill be sure to wear my at straight, & above the ears, and pull my pants up.
Call me skeptical but Im doubting that Sturgis is filled with the rapper wanna bes as a few mentioned.

in the summer i love to ride in the rain showers. get cooled off and dry by the next stop. but during bike week no thank you. it gets way too cold most years. but it does warm up in the later time of the day. once the fireball goes down it gets cold
