I went to the Expert 250 RR and the Supercross that followed in 79'. Did this for a couple of years before moving on to the 200. ThenI discovered Main St, etc. and it was all over.

I've only see Supercross on TV and never wanted to see it live. I'm sure it's fun as it is made for spectators more than the racers. I see it as a trick riding event for show more than racing. I do want to go to the KOB race next year if I attend.

If I remember right that was called, "laid back." Not like today where every word, glance or bump could be interpreted as a challenge or a sign of disrespect.

Kinda where I'm at in life. We vacation in the Daytona area every year. But we don't schedule it until about 2 weeks after the event is over.
I've been to Myrtle Beach's bike week twice. First time at a rally like that. It was fun then but I wouldn't be excited about it these days. I like stopping in for a beer and chatting with locals to get to know things. Circling for parking or parking a half mile from the bike, standing at bars 5 deep is just not a thrill for me. I guess we all age out of certain things.

LOL! That last post stirred my memory of my first trip to Myrtle Beach, period. I rode my bike into town on Memorial Day weekend or thereabouts. Anyways it was a week after Myrtle Beach bike week. The cops and locals were fed up with bikes by then. As soon as I turned left on Ocean Blvd, I was surrounded by three police cars. They jumped out shouted: "Shut it off, push it over there, and park it. Don't start it up again until you are leaving". They made be push it across Ocean Blvd to a parking lot, across heavy traffic. Then they surround me and start saying we can charge him for that knife (buck 112 Ranger on my belt), we can charge him for those pipes - no state allows those pipes (36" 1-3/4" drags on a Shovelhead). I wouldn't recommend going to Myrtle Beach right after their event.

I don't recommend Myrtle Beach before, during or after the event. The page turned in '09 and soured me for good. Truth be told - it kind of wasn't really worth the hassle before '09 either. JMHO, YMMV.

Is it still that way in Myrtle? In went in 2005 and 2006 and it was kinda fun. But that was first time for any kind of rally for me. I know that they once had a mayor that all but pushed everything north or south because no one wanted to come into the city. But I have non riding friends that live there year round and they say that it's coming back to what it once was after that mayor was ousted.
I really have no interest in returning to their rally or any other one. I'm just curious about how it really is there now.

I went in 2004 and we had a lot of fun.

There were two Bike Weeks. Myrtle Beach Bike Week and Myrtle Beach Black Bike Week. All of the trouble came from the latter but the city couldn't shut down just one, so they shut down both for a while. People still showed up but it wasn't well organized. I believe it's back to the way it used to be now.

Yeah, that a whole other topic likely to stir up a shitstorm. Let's just say that I had several conversations with people in the hospitality business and their claim is that one event causes much more trouble than the other.
But on the plus side I did like the fact that it's such a large area with functions in Myrtle, North Myrtle and Murrell's Inlet that nothing seemed super crowded in the years that I attended. Early May was some great weather in that area.

I've been going to Myrtle Beach Bike Week for the past 13 years.
I've always had a great time. Lots of riding and bikes to see.
It's spread out between North Myrtle Beach and Murrells Inlet.
We stay in the town of Myrtle Beach and never had a problem with the police.
They were always helpful and kept the trouble to a minimum.
Act like you have some sense and you will have a great time at MBB.
There are usually over 300,000 bikes.
