Get the engine good and hot and ride 70 MPH in a rain storm, it will steam clean the fins.

I cleaned up the fins on a bike using a fine wet/dry sandpaper folded over the back edge of a flat carpenter pencil.

Cleaned up the engine with S100 Engine Brightener. Worked pretty good. I also hit the fins with a toothbrush while it was still wet.

I use a folded strip of 240 or so Emery Cloth. What I also use on the rear rim at tire changes.

Works for me.

I once had a Dealership let their grunt kid was my bike with it's freshly painted engine with Simple Green. It had white residue all over it. I was furious and made them detail it.

Keeps the edge sharpe. A pad just rolls in and scratches the surface one does not need to hit. If that area is bad, it's time for soap and water and a scrub brush.

Then flat black spray. And then the folded 220.

I use the S100 brighter for the black engine parts, but I think he is talking about the actual fins, which are silver.
