Clean it often and hit it with S100 every now and then.

I'm still confused how the OP is getting rust on aluminum. Another vote for the fine grit sanding sponges to gently remove the corrosion. steel wool is not your friend.

In my experience, it almost doesn't matter WHAT you use, as long as you do it fairly regularly, to keep the rust at bay. There are plenty of good products that will do the job. Just don't let the rust start. that's when the real trouble starts. I live in Florida and I have to be vigilant with my new Heritage. I got rust on another, older bike on the fin edges and it was hell dealing with it. I never did get it all off.

That's why I love my older sportster, the engine is all black and I don't have to worry about it, just hit it with Pig Spit from time to time.
