My 2008 EGS I bought brand new in April of 08 always kept on a tender, never replaced the battery. Traded it in in May 2015 with the original battery.

I just bought a new Yuasa high performance battery to replace the original in my 2016 Road King. ($200. today)
The battery was still starting the bike but my speedometer would reset the gear indicator / tach display back to the odometer on occasion.
I suppose while cranking the voltage was getting low enough to scramble the ecm's or speedo's brain.
It will be interesting to see how a new 500 cca battery behaves compared to the old stocker.

I have 2 08's , a 2011, a 2013 & a 2014. All still have original batteries. All on a tender when not riding even overnight. I did have to replace the one in my 04 heritage 5 years ago due to tender dying. If I was to head across country on one of them I would probably replace but have had good luck.

Eventaully I am going to carry jump packs in all vehicles. They jumped up big time since last year. Small ones were $35, now 65-70. I carry jumper cables, but that needs another bike. The packs need to be maintained though. But 1-2 checks should get you through a summer.
