Im looking for a set of chrome handlebar controls.. To fit my 08 heritage. I have came across someone selling some (used parts place) they arent for sure what year they came off of. My buddy said I need some for dot 4 fluid. And this person isnt sure if they are dot 5 or 4. She basically said, " the master cylinder is empty so put what ever fluid you want in there" While Im not the brightest bulb, I feel like that isnt the greatest scenario.. Can I make these work? I feel like the seals would be made of something different depending on which fluid they were made for.
This is from the 2008 HD accessories catalog. Hope it helps. Use the part numbers and search. Looks like for the master cylinder it matters if you have dual disc or not.

I would not put brake fluid in a MC if you dont know what it had in it before. The DOT 4 and DOT 5 ARE NOT COMPATIBLE and if there is even a tiny bit left of the the wrong fluid you're asking for trouble.
Edit- does the cover on the MC say anything? Usually they have the recommended fluid written on them.

The MC is missing the cover.. Even then.. I wouldnt fully trust it.. I have seen where people have swapped covers out for chrome and they be complete opposite of what the fluid is for
