thx....I just want it as a once in a while cold weather helmet...or a rainy day helmet....I guess everyone would freak out with my daily...its a 20 year old novelty helmet covered in stickers.
Sorry to everyone I didn't mean to get a big mess started...I was just seeing about fixing up an old helmet like the ones I wore as a kid...and thx for all the advice on not wearing it...idk if I ever will but if I do (cold weather, rain) I will say an extra prayer....
I think people who know about helmets are just concerned for you, that's all. I hate to be a bearer of bad news, but helmet manufacturers suggest replacing a helmet every 5 - 8 years. This is because the shell gets old and will crack or shatter and the foam inside the helmet is dry and crumbles or gets hard and will break like a piece of hard candy. I think it's a great time period piece, but if you do decide to wear it, I agree, you may need to say one, two, three, maybe many more prayers if you do wear it. You're way past the the 5 - 8 year limit. Polish it up and put it on a shelf to display. I have several of my graphic helmets that I loved displayed. They're just cool pieces of art (the graphics) and of a different era.
Much like military and police body armor your helmets ability to protect your head decreases with time, exposure to the elements and body perspiration.
I personally would not use a helmet over 5 years old. Your head your choice.

The metric dealers (Honda, etc.) used to have those three-snap replacement visors up the wazoo.
Of course, I haven't been to a metric dealer in about 40 years. Things may have changed.
