Some people are more than happy with the stock preformence. Believe it ...................Or not
I know this is soooooooooooo..... utterly insane with the new 07's and 08's on the market, but I have an 05' FXDLI with the so lowly TC 88 engine (Stage I, Python's) and the antique 5-speed. However, I (forsome strange reason) seem to have no trouble staying with my 07'/08' buddies, my transmission is quiet, and the heat seems managable. And, surprising, it will pull a steep grade in 5th gear! Maybe being a Dyna and me weighing 175 pounds helps, but my "bigger TC owner" friends just can't understand why I won't trade/sell my scooter for one of the new models. I think I'll just becontent to the be "also ran" for a little while longer. Heck, I even got it up to 70 mph the other day (down hill with no head wind).
Yeah, I have a stock evo with nothing but a 2-1 Hooker and S&S Super E and I have no problems with the TC-88s. Have not tried on a 96 yet.
Harley makes pretty damn good motors. I would buy a reman. if I needed a new engine.

Man I guess I wouldn't have a chance of keeping up with you what running a stock 80" evo and all.I just happen to like that old antique thing it is 13 years old and all.If the time ever comes I think I'll just do the re-man and all cause that ol' girl will go as fast as I want to go even with the little lady on back.
Actually Harley will not rebuild your motor if it has any modifications to it. Examples would be, gear driven cams on the TC's or after market cams, or a Big bore kit 95" or 103. They will only rebuild your motor if it is completly stock in referance to its internals.

According to harley's own website....they will take your engine if they have aftermarket cams but the reman. engine will be returned with factory stock cams and your custom ones won't be installed or returned.
