Unhappy Harley Ride Planner problems

I have been using the HD ride planner for many years at least since 2012. I still use it and transfer the routes to my Garmin. I planned a trip this year to Sturgis pre rally week, Red Lodge Montana over Bear tooth to Cody. Onward to Yellowstone and Jackson, Thermopolis, up back to ten sleep then back to Sturgis for the full Rally week. I have made this loop a few times now and the Ride planner always worked for me on all my trips.... Now lately in the this year I had nothing but aggravation using it. I already know to use it using many way points to keep on track and that the planner will make all locations a separate ride when downloaded. The issue I have is when I set a waypoint on the road it will add multiple waypoints at once and cause more problems trying to undue all of them in the same spot. The planner also will display no rides found and continue blinking that until I back out and start over. Very aggravating to say the least and i have tried many browser and always cleared the cookies etc. I would suspect HD uses a contract vendor for this and just goes with the best bid to manage it. So I while reading about these issues I stumbled upon a person who suggested to look at the Indian ride command. Yep jumped ship on the ride planner. Had to. What a difference it is. I have now planned my trip on the ride command planner with out and problems. You can create the profile and account the download is the same and it saves the files as GPX so it works fine. The app does not use waypoints but uses locations as waypoint and it does not break up the ride into separate routes with multiple locations. Also there is a 3D window that you can simulate the route in 3D using the google maps landscape following you pre planned route. This is really cool. So lastly I called HD customer relations service and told them this entire story. I also told them I would prefer to use the HD planner however it is just as of now worthless to me. I told the rep to have whoever handles this to compare it to the Ride Command and see the difference. Hopefully they will improve the ride planner. I know some of you will say never use it and use maps etc however on big trip i have found I can maximize my travel planning out the places I go to. Granted they are day i just go get lost as well. So if any one has the same problems give the ride command a try its free also.

I wonder it a trip on ride command could be transferred to the new Harley Boom box navigation system as a gpx file???

Probably not via the phone... but to download it as a GPX file to a stick and load it into the nav system should work. I tested it on my Zumo and it worked fine. I have a 2012 with the older Garmin stand alone system the links into the the radio.

For route/trip/ride planners I'd look into http://Furkot.com. If Furkot didn't exist, I might look at http://Myrouteapp.com or other 3rd party solutions.

Edit...

Furkot doesn't have the most sexy UI, I haven't found a route planner that is more powerful/useful. If somebody has an example of a more powerful/useful planner I'd like to see it. Furkot POIs almost rivals Google Maps and makes it quite useful for finding things of interest to stop by/visit/do along your trips (half the point of taking a trip in my mind). Furkot is also very good at planning fuel, finding/booking lodging, etc. etc. Furkot may have more of a learning curve and require more reading of the (thorough) documention to figure out how to leverage its capability, but that comes with the territory of a more powerful/feature rich planner. You might be surprised just how thorough/powerful/well thought out this app is once you dig through the documentation.

MyRoute-app has both MRA Routeplaner and Android/iPhone/iPad MRA Navigation app. Routeplanner is good, but still not good enough that I would replace Furkot with it. However, the Navigation app is really good and what I would use if using a smartphone for navigation. So, use Furkot and then export trips to MRA Navigation - works well.

MyRoute has a limited free version of Routeplanner and yearly subscription based licenses for more advance verison or Routeplanner and Navigation. I'm not wild about yearly subscriptions, but MyRoute is always offering special lifetime license purchase deals. I took advantage of one of those to purchase a lifetime license for Navigation.

My 2 cents.

HD Ride Planner has been having issues since April. They are aware of it. There is a big thread discussing it on the Rushmore Models thread. Some folks have found better success using FireFox with it, or Edge. I still use it it with Chrome, just takes longer & patience. HD screw up something bad on an update in April.

Red Lodge over Beartooth is still closed (as far as to Chief Joseph into Cody).
If you've done thiat Yellowstone-Jackson-Thermo-Ten Sleep loop a few times, the road signs should be enough that you don't need HDRP (I never did).

So now that the H-D Ride Planner is all jacked up I've lost access to all the routes I had previously. Therefore I'm looking for recommendations for a simple user friendly alternate for I-Phone.
TIA

In addition to Furkot and MyRoute-app, there is Scenic app (designed as an IOS route planning/navigation app for motorcycles). I'm an Android user (Scenic is supposed to become available for Android sooner or later) so haven't used Scenic. However, reviews seem to be favorable and it integrates with Furkot. Also seems to be free.

Other potential candidates...

Planning those trips to Sturgis and beyond must have been a mix of excitement and frustration with the recent issues. I can relate to relying on tools like these for detailed route planning—I once planned a road trip using a similar tool and had to deal with glitches that threw off my entire route.

I've found using notesonline.com helpful for organizing my travel plans and jotting down important details along the way. It keeps everything in one place, just like you're managing your routes. It's great that you found a solution with the Indian Ride Command—it seems like a smoother experience with the GPX files and 3D route simulation.
