Last night, my service light popped up on my K1600GT. The folks at the dealership did not reset it when I took it in for an annual service back in April. I can take it in again, or I can use a device I have called a GS911 (https://www.hexcode.co.za) to reset the service light.
This got me thinking about a similar device for my 2022 Fat Boy. I reached out to a company called Diagnostica, which makes a similar device for HD's. Apparently, HD switched to a new 6 pin diagnostic plug in 2021 that is different than the "old" 6 pin. Diagnostica has no plans to make a device that is compatible with this.
Is there a "go to" code reader that the folks here use? I see some nice options from Snap on at $6K - $10K? Anything more reasonable for the consumer/hobbiest market?
I am looking for a device that can read codes, reset a service light (assuming there is one), turning on and off features such as cruise control would be a nice plus.
Maybe I'm missing something but to just read/reset codes why can't you use procedure from user's manual to view/reset them on speedometer ?
I had a BMW before and used on of those GS911's because there was no way to read or reset codes without a computer and gadget. I love that HD enables this function via the speedometer readout. Here's a link to a site with code descriptions (there are several sites that I know of).
I use Daig4Bike, but not to read/clear codes, but it does that too... I use the screen on the bike. But for enabling/disabling "features", its as complete a tool as any out there. It came with 3 cables for the different year model bikes, including the new bikes. You'll need a laptop to use it though, and at $1200 its not cheap... but I like it.
I have a gs911 for my r1200r, and it does more than read codes, so I get what the OP is looking for. It also sets the bike into maintenance modes like cycling the abs so that you can bleed the system properly, and it allows independent testing of components for diagnostics. Its more than just grabbing codes. I have looked into that diag4bike, but man, $1200? I thought the $300 was bad for the bmw one.
Thank you all for the pointers. Many great threads to go and chase down! One of the things that I like about the HD is it is an order of magnitude less complex than my BMWs.
