We've had enough natural disaster on the east coast to make a moron smart. Do people really think that they can build a structure ocean front to withstand what Mother Nature can dish out ? I don't think so. The set back needs to be west of the Halifax and Banana rivers to to even stand a chance of withstanding anything Cat 4 or above. I feel sorry for the people and business' that are going thru the destruction from the last 2 canes but what the hell were they thinking when they chose the Atlantic to be in their front yard. Rich don't mean you have brains.
As far as people there hating bikers I just don't see it in the 40 plus years I been going there. Yeah city hall will cater to the money bags that control them just like any other city does but they are not going to stop 200,000 plus people from coming a couple times a year to enjoy themselves and spending millions in the local economy. Respect the locals and they will respect you. You go Main St and A1A you're gonna pay premium prices to have fun. I like to go in town to see the sights at least once during my trips there. You never know what or who you're going to see. Personally there are quite a few local spots that tend to Bike Week folks with great food and drink prices. After the first couple of trips in the 70's I spend most of my time there riding other parts of the state mostly northwest of Daytona. Bike week has become a time for us to ride with friends that we've met over the years.
