Default Witnessed a serious wreck

On my way home I witnessed a serious m/c wreck.I was traveling over a bridge (2 lanes both eastbound),when a guy on a sport bike came fling up behind me.He started zig-zaging between cages. He got behind a car in the right lane and it slowed down.So he moved into the left lane behind an Accord. The Accord slowed (heavy traffic ahead),the rocket pilot panniced and locked up his front brakes. At this point he was on the grease track. He rear ended the Accord and lost control.Lucky for him the Accord kept moving for about 1000 ft.before stoppping. He bounced into the right lane and back into the left lane.Cages in both lanes were able to miss him.He tried to get up but could'nt.The only safety gear he had was his helmit,no gloves. He had a nylon wind breaker, corderoy pants and runners. He survived with non life threatening injuries, concution and major road rash.

I hate to be the one to say it, but I guess that it what happens when you ride like an idiot. Riding a motorcycle is not the safest pasttime by any means, but acting like a fool weaving in and out of traffic increases your chances of a wreck tremendously. I hope that he heals up and learns something in the process.

I am glad he wil be ok, but I would bet my next 2 paychecks he won't get stupid on a bike again. That is if he will ever ride on again.

Default RE: Witnessed a serious wreck

I am 49 and have been riding for more years then I care to admit. (getting older, not old)
When I was in my late teens/ early 20's I had what would be considered some of the fastest bikes of the day.
I did some dumb things and paid the price. What was fast then, is not now. These new sport bikes are extremly fast/quick. There are many of the young riders that do not realize about the laws of inertia. (an object in motion tends to stay in motion). Even at the time I dumped my street bikes I have and did not blame anyone but me. (two times I was drinking). Since then, I do not drink and ride. (my choice)

When you have TV shows that show stunts, bikes that can lift the front wheel at 60 MPH you have to know your limits. A lot of young riders have never ridder an dirt bike and have never dumped it and have NO FEAR. Yes, they seem dumb, but remember when we were in that age group we were invincable. I agree, there is a time and place to stunt, race and generally ride ***** to the wall (track days) in a somewhat safe manner. Very few of us dress for the crash. We think it will not happen. In the case, the rider was tottaly at fault. Yes, many bike wrecks are younger riders on sport bikes. Hopefully they younger riders will become "us" some day. Maybe not riding a Harley, or Victory type cruiser, but looking back and hopefully be more cautious when riding.
Keep in mind, there are many "older" rider on sportbikes also.

There is not substiute for experiance.

Wow, that was long winded, sorry. My rant.
I hate hearing about any rider hitting the pavement, or another car for that matter.
