Default 2023 Gray Haze & Industrial Yellow

We rode down the Myrtle Beach this week. On the way down I stopped at a dealership and was noticing all the sale signs on the new bikes. Most were $500 to $1200.00 off with other package deal offers on parts and clothing / gear. The conversation moved to the new 2023 models and he asked if I'd like to see the new colors. He pulled the list out and as for models at least on this paper they appear to be the same for the most part. Nothing stood out as different.

On the colors the two key ones I focused on for the touring models is "Gray Haze" and "Indistrial Yellow".

So the Gunship Gray and Gaunlet Gray are gone and replaced by Gray Haze. That should be interesting. I'm thinking something like the Scorched Earth, remember that? We'll see.

Industrial Yellow by name does not excite me. All I can visualize is a DOT truck spreading salt on the highway. Or maybe you'll wear a hard hat instead of a helmet.

Check with your local dealership. They have the new colors listing.

It's that time of year and no doubt fears of a recession motivate sales even more.

I do have the full list on my blog (drdanmorel.wordpress.com) - it’s written in Brazilian Portuguese but you can google translate.

what I didn’t see anywhere was the pictures of the actual color demos we usually see on the chart.

the only one you’ll be able to see is the Industrial Yellow and White Sand Pearl on a Pan America Special.

It’s not that I don’t like colors but I have decided if I can help it I’m sticking to black on future bikes. Somehow it just simplifies life. I was in a large dealer once and they had all the black bikes lined up together and it looked impressive to me compared to the other side of the floor where they had all the non-black bikes displayed.

People associate cool paint names with better colors. I'm trying to figure out how "Gray Haze / Industrial Yellow" gets the excitement lobe stimulated. Aren't these available at Lowe's in a rattle can? The colors themselves might be fine but the naming... What's next...'Koala Buff'?

Industrial Yellow ? ... How 'bout for "School Bus Chrome"

School bus yellow is a color that was specifically formulated for use on school buses in North America in 1939. Originally officially named National School Bus Chrome, the color is now officially known in Canada and the U.S. as National School Bus Glossy Yellow.

Can't remember ever walking into a motorcycle dealer and asking " Can I get that bike in Grey or Yellow? " Dealers have color charts months before the new bikes are announced.

You’re correct on that, but this time around not a single picture of the chart has leaked and the colors has become known less than a month ago.

I really don’t know the reason for so much secrecy…

I'm curious about the fascination with new model colors ? I remember being a kid and getting excited about the new model year cars coming out but now I don't feel anything about new models or colors at all. I do get excited about the old iron that comes through the shop, I just don't feel it about new bikes.

I think it's because generally, that's pretty much all that changes for most models, from year to year. Most motorcycles from all manufacturers are pretty much carryovers from year to year so, other than the paint job, nothing much is different.
