Hi Guys
I just received reduced reach levers for my 2022 Road King from SoftBreak. Any chance you can share some tips on how to replace it without causing any damage and make it relatively easy?
I am curious if I can replace clutch lever without messing much with clutch cable, adjustment and all this jazz? I plan to remove pins but curious if I should just pull on cable, replace lever and try to reinsert it and if it is even possible to do it this way?
If the clutch has a cable you will need to put slack in it, to remove the lever. I'd wait until doing an adjustment. Though it is winter, and doesn't take that long to do.
Unless they are nothing like older harleys. You need to put slack in to slide out the pin holding them in.
Which is something you would do when adjusting the clutch.
I installed my Oberon adjustable levers on my 2020 Fat Bob just like you described and did not put slack or disconnect the clutch cable. I took the pin out and rotated the lever out. You do need to pull on the lever a bit to get it out, but it comes out. Install was the same.
If I was to do it again though, I would just disconnect the top clutch cable. I believe you can disconnect and reconnect and no adjustment needed.
My two cents . . . let me know if you need change. lol
I suppose just push the pin out. But putting slack in the cable is not hard. You need to do it, to adjust the clutch every 5k miles. So if you don't know how, you need to learn anyways.
I hate those clips with I could find beefy ones. Buy some extras before you start.
Best TiP: A HD Service manual will assist you greatly with changing the levers. Make sure you follow the procedures for the brake lever as you can break the switch in the housing if you are not careful.
It may not be as easy as just pulling the pin as there looks to be other componets in there (spring etc.) I have not worked on the newer model Harley cable clutches so I can not offer further advice.
You may also want to get a few extra circle-clips (snap ring) as they sometimes have the propensity to spring across the garage and get lost. See below.
Also a good pair of snap ring pliers will be your friend.
I did. Looks similar to md. Has anything really changed though? To do this, I would remove the circlip. I would adjust slack into cable same way. Though It was said you don't need to.
I guess what I am getting has anything really changed in the adjustment of the clutch or cables on newer bikes? My new bike is hydraulic.
I did my levers just like the guy in the second video.
Although I liked watching the gal in the first video even though that was a hydraulic clutch so not the same. I have to watch her video 4 or 5 times to make sure though.
