I dropped my bike while doing a figure 8 on a Prorider course. I scratched the edge of my windshield. Is there anything I can do to buff it out? I’ve heard solutions from toothpaste to car lens restorer.
I have buffed out minor scuffs and scratches from shields before. I used a product called Novus bit I think any of the products being sold will do. These products are intended to buff out minor scratches and imperfections and won't do much beyond that. If the damage includes gouges or the windshield looks like it was dragged along the pavement for 100 yards, you are just wasting your money with the buffing solutions. In that case, you can either get a new windshield or just deal with the imperfection as long as it isn't in the direct line of sight and distracting.
Yes you can. Buy an assortment of fine grit sandpaper and wet sand to finish. I have cut down and sanded windshields myself and you couldn't tell it was done. But it does take time, patience and elbow grease
It appears very minor to me. If you didn't tell anyone there was a scratch and they walked by your bike, nobody would probably notice.
You are going to get a lot worse over the course of ownership as you start racking up the miles, especially on the highway. Rocks, debris, random scratches, scuffs from cleaning with dirty rags etc.....it is inevitable. Why they make buffing compounds. If it is a big concern just get one of the buffing products made for windshields. Or go the sandpaper route as just mentioned. But this doesn't look serious enough to really spend a lot of time on. But it is your bike and your call.
I was going to suggest waiting until you got some scratches that actually are in your field of view. Then again, it might be good to practice on the ones at the edge so you a good ideal how to handle future blemishes.
I've used the Novus 3-step scratch remover kit on some pretty deep scratches on a couple of windshields and it got them out. If they're very deep it takes a lot of patience and a lot of rubbing with the Heavy Scratch Remover before you can move on to the fine scratch remover.
