1st....Dealers are programmed to sell. They will also advise on tires if the wear-bars are within 2/32 of tread left. That's a total of 4/32 before its completely smooth. Due to liabilities in the industry and because they would most likely be sued by someone if they did not advise on tire conditions while in for any type of service work. This is a normal routine. Better safe than sorry if your not able to contend with tires and wear factors/conditions yourself.
I maintain/service all my bikesand replace my tires myself. I know dealers are out to sell whatever they can, but when its a safety issue someone needs to tell the customer and 2/32 is the safety limit.
