73 XLH Sportster
Current battery is a CHD4-12
Thinking about buying a NOCO Lithium battery for all the reasons.
I think I read somewhere something about needing an alternator conversion?
There are a couple of threads around here about batteries.... I suggest you search for these and see what has already been said. Pros and cons. Personally I would stick with AGM Deka or Eastern Penn batteries.
Good Luck on your search.
There is too much voltage fluctuation in a generator charging system to use a lithium battery. Stick with a sealed lead acid or AGM battery. You might want to update the voltage regulator to a solid state unit.
73 Sportster has a generator system. Do not think a generator system will work with a lithium battery - I may be wrong through, someone with more knowledge will chime in I am sure.
No reason to mix new technology with an old system, especially if it has the potential to burn your bike down.
The lead/acid battery in my Shovelhead typically lasts 6-7 years.

And my Shovel weighs 13lbs less and that equals possibly, optimistically could mean a 10th of second. My Softail, an AMG can’t turn over more than a couple of times if it doesn’t start. Lithium, heck I don’t even need the compression releases.
As a people we often hesitate (with good reason) to embrace new. But once New is sorted out and understood it yields big benefits.
zero issue with lithium. Just make sure it’s a quality Battery with safety features and a good modern charging system.

You're giving the OP bad advice. You are attempting to compare a Shovelhead with an AC alternator to an Ironhead Sportster with a DC generator. A DC generator has different charging perimeters than the alternator in a Shovel, and using a lithium battery is not a good option.
