i agree . some of us just add things to our bike so it will run better out on the road. or two up rideing some things just make it smoother when you are going down the road . i know what you are saying. i know a guy that went out bought the loudest pipes he could get so people would look at him when he drove up.
Have owned performance bikes and cars for 35years now and haven't had a wreck because of too much power. Currently have a 111hp/117tq 103inch FXDXT and have am on my second rear tire touring two up this year (also was hardly ever in 5th gear)...having 100+ ft lbs available from 2200rpm up is quite a feeling. There's a lot of territory between a 3/4 ton geezer glide and a squid on a crotch rocket...pick your seat. I hope I never "grow out of it"

Most of us are from the same mold and going fast is where it's at.No doubt alot of the things you here is just bragging rights. If you are going to Talk the Talk, you best better be able to Walk the Walk!I for one, would sooner meet a lot of the boys out on the asphalt, and see if what they say is really true.
Just yesterday, happened that I was pulling into the gas station at the same time another dude was pulling in so he took the next pump from mine. He asked me what octane I was using and I told him 93 always and then we started a conversation about why.
In relationship to what yur asking, I mentioned to him that 93 gave me better performance as most mentioned here already. It has nothing to do with speed per se in terms of burning down the road showing peeps how fast I can travel but more so when I need to move out of the way, pass a Big Rig or whatever, the last thing I want is a sluggish bike. I need instant reaction when I pull down the throt nothing more and when I do that, it's only for a distance that gets me away from whatever is bothering me at the time.
I'm much too old 2B racing besides, with a 21" front wheel, that baby starts bouncing when I hit 80 or above so I tend to keep it simple. My bike is running in top order right now like the day I bought her, no misfires, no pops, no hesitation but I guess I baby my engine more than most.
I will admit this, when my friend bought his nighttrain last year, we went on a cruise and he wanted to show me how fast it moved I guess, so given we were on a road that allowed a little [Get on it] without much traffic to deal with, I kicked it and we were both surprised 2C me go past him with relative ease, him with his freakin fuel injection and all and me with my old carb (unmodified)
It was a beautiful thing ... 1st time & last I did that
not to be mean, but unless your bike requires it due to high compression ratio running anything over the recommended octane will not give you better performance, and in some cases will reduce performance. That being said, as concerns more power on tap, sometimes its just nice to know its there. I cannot help but modify everything I get. I strip off reflectors, but add more lighting. I immediatly change the stock exhaust and air filter. Usually rip off the top end and do a big bore kit and add cams within six months of owning a new bike. My mods cost nothing cause I either trade or wait till I find an idiot on ebay(theres plenty). My new 600 exhaust cost me 60 bucks from dennis kirk scratch and dent sale. 90% off. Theres lotsa 90% off stuff on there. I'm a modifying junkie. I even cant leave the wifes bike alone. I've even repainted and pinstriped my rudubg lawnmower. I need help.
