My iron is tired,,,,so am i........but back in the day,,,I'd race anything,,,even the cops.....but I think alot of us baby boomers grew up around it and like me grew out of it......
OK, let's bust the octane myth again. Higher octain includes more additives to restrict pre-ignition by compression. Compression ignition is sporadic and uneven with gasoline. Higher compression engines need the additives. The additives do not increase performance, unless they eliminateknocking caused by high compression pre-ignition. It's not a good thing to have your pistons slammed around by uneven ignition. The SPARK works much better.
Most of us are from the same mold and going fast is where it's at.No doubt alot of the things you here is just bragging rights. If you are going to Talk the Talk, you best better be able to Walk the Walk!I for one, would sooner meet a lot of the boys out on the asphalt, and see if what they say is really true.
Me, I would like to see you on the road myself. Like to buy ya a beer also, maybe show ya how to eat raw clams. Hope to see ya down here, stop by the house. It is not much of a ride, under 1,700. Like to see the new scoot.
My engine is stock compression, and it just likes 94 better than 91. I ran a few tanks of 91 through it, and I noticed a drop in performance.
oh? and what did you notice? was your engine knocking with 91??
Nope, but it was sluggish. It just didn't have the same jump when I hit the throttle. I put about 5 tanksfulls in a row of 91 through her, and as soon as I went back to the 94, she got that jump back.
Having been a wrench in the past, I do know what octane rating is and how it affects engine performance. I also know that some engines like higher octane gas even though they're not high compression. I've known people who ran lower octane gas in higher compression motors, and never had any detonation issues too.
