Default Tour pack weight

Getting ready to take a long trip. I have a quick release king tour pack. On the last couple trips I have changed the quick release mount back to the oem tour pack mount that bolts onto the bike. It's alot of work. I load up my tour pack ...to much im sure . Are these quick release prone to failure?

I bought new quick releasse brackets for the bike because the old ones the tour pack had some movement..these ones it's very solid with no play

I’ve never seen Harley brand quick release hardware let the tour pack move but can’t say the same about after market.

My QR mount holds double the recommended weight for my tour pack.

You can adjust the cams on them to make them tighter or more loose.

Just remember that the luggage rack on the top of tour packs are only held in by 4 small screws/bolts.

Take less and buy what you need on the fly. That's how I roll.......

I've got a Harley king tour pak mounted with the Harley quick release hardware. I just did a 2,500 mile trip with the pak loaded up. I even had a small suitcase tied to the luggage rack. There were no problems. Everything stayed tight.

But.. I am a bit OC about the hardware. Every week or so, one of the preventative maintenance things I do is to check the quick release screws to make sure nothing is coming loose.

If you're traveling solo, don't forget to pack the passenger seat for the heavy stuff. We just did 16 days over 6k miles with a 23# bag on the rack and 28# in the box. This is our 3rd dresser with combined 200k miles and no problem so far. 1 bike had the qd hardware with a little play without a passenger. Buy was never a problem.

They're pretty sturdy. Youd be amazed at the amount of **** I have hauled in my old Electra Glide tour pack.

I opted for the docking hardware when I bought my King pack. Six months later I'm on a HOG group ride and the guy riding behind reported that it bouncing around. When I checked it, sure enough, it was flopping loose. I have the Harley fixed mount used on the Ultras and limited. Removing the box by zipping off the four mount bolts (either under the box or where the rack mounts to the frame) takes all of 5 minutes. I actually find it as easy as using the docking hardware and it's a fraction of the cost. Good option for guys like me that don't switch back and forth from the box to a luggage rack. Hell, I basically never take the Tour Pack off.

That maybe something i consider. I take mine off alot..but if the nuts were maybe tack welded and i could just pop the 4 bolts inside the tour pack. The qr is fine around local..but i pack alot and put a big bag on my tp...the fixed mount makes me feel better. And I'm taking off several states away

I have an aftermarket QD bracket on my King TourPak.
It fits pretty lightly and doesn't move much at all.
As an extra level of confidence, I ran a rubber tie-down strap through the bracket, and secured each end to the bag surround bar using the S-hooks that came on the strap.
It wouldn't keep the TP from flying off into the street by itself, but with the latches and tight bracket hardware, it gives me the additional reassurances I need.
