You know your having fun riding when...
I rode out to the dealer to have the wheel checked. I didn't have the tour pak on and the one side bag was full of the "extra stuff" you just carry around (extra jacket, chaps, yada yada...I just leave them in there even at 104[&:]). The other bag was basically empty.
After I visited the Service Department I justhad to go shopping, of course.I found a pairof my favorite boots in my size on the sale table! I thought about it for a minute thinking of what I needed to finish pickin gup on the way home aand thought..."I can make it fit!". So I go outside, consider if I can fit the rest of waht I need in the bags if I take the shoes out of the box. I figure "No"and strap the box on topof the leather fender cover with bungy cords.
I wanted topickup 1/2 a flat of fresh strawberries (we grow loads locally) to take with us to the mom-in-laws and some other fruit for a salad too. Because I'm riding through farm country on the way home from the dealer I figured I'd stop at the road side stand instead of going to the grocery store.
I get to to the road side stand look at the strawberries and look at my bag...the guy selling the friut says, "You'll make margeritas if you try to stack strawberries in that bag".....hmmmmm....So I unstrap the boot box, put the boots in the side bag with a pinapple, a melon, and some plums....Then I put the 1/2 a flat of strawberries (6 small baskets) in the boot box and strap it back down then strappeda bag of peaches to the bars[&:]The fruitgot a little brusied, but they made it home.

Would have been a bit easier to take the bike and boots home then go back to the fruit stand with the cage...but it wouldn't have been nearly as much fun!
Years ago I used to have a bicycle with a luggage rack. I strapped a small wooden box to the rack and used to go grocery shopping with it. One of the paper grocery bags (I wassingle then, so that's about all the groceries I'd need for a few days)would slide perfectly into the box and it had high enough sides to keep everything in place. Got some strange looks, but it worked great (and saved on gas when I was poor). And around that same time there was another guy in town who rode everywhere with an old milk crate fastened on his motorcycle for hauling stuff. I guess great minds (or weirdos, depending on your viewpoint) think alike.

As for going home to unload the bike and get the car, that's all wrong. Just go home, unload the bike, and then take the bike back out (with newly empty bags) for the rest. That way you can ride longer.

You Know You Have Fun Riding......
When you accidently forget the one thing your wife needed most, just so you HAVE to go back to the store!!!
And of course, my 26-mile route to the post office (which is a mere six blocks away) is legendary, according to the wife.
