I finally got my Color matched air cleaner cover. In order to minimize scratching would putting on several coats of wax/polish help protect it? This is a Sportster so it has the enormous "ham can" air cleaner and it's impossible not to rub my leg against it. Any suggestions on what to use?

If you are that afraid get a couple of clearcoats put on it..

Wax really isn't going to protect it. The best you can do is polish out the hazy spots from where your leg is gonna rub on it.

Wax will help with corrosion resistance, but like Sliverearl said, have a paint shop throw a few layers of clearcoat on it. Small scuffs can be buffed out of clearcoat.
