Ok, we'll just leave it at that. We agree to disagree.

This is the last time I will post in this topic. You know what they say about arguing over the internet.

My intent below was not to threaten you. My intent was to calmly and rationally explain, that had they been my "Children" you would have gotten what you deserved.

(Oh and by the way Mike, many people refer to them as their kids)
I guess you would have to be a parent to understand that part.

I'm not the joke. If you seriously think that doing me bodily harm is justified by my speeding, then you are.

I never threatened you with harm, hell Mike I don't even know you, other than by your post here.[/blockquote]

You said that if it were your kids, I wouldn't have made it to court, right? That may not be a direct threat, but you are saying that you would cause me bodily harm if the circumstances were different.

The conclusion I draw from all this is that some folks think everybody should only follow the laws they agree with. Disagree with speed laws? Ignore them.

No law against speaking your mind, but if you are a cop you get to make one up and enforce it because you can get away with it.

Should we just have a free for all?

We are all in this country together. The laws are there to make things work. You don't get to pick which laws you like, or who's rights you choose to respect. This is the USA and some people don't seem to understand what that means.

Seems a little backwards thinking to me. If its about the money why did they give you a 455 dollar break? They could have said 700.00!! Pay on your way out. Seems like a lucky break from the good ole boys..

I edited becauseI added wrong, didnt want to be called an idiot.

Seems that everyone who said speeding fines are about revenue, not safety, was right. I walked into the courtroom in Tift County Georgia today and without any pleading, the solicitor (the guy that collects the fine) said, "How about we drop it to a 84 in a 70? That'll be $245 and no points on your license. You got cash?"

For those of you that want to read the whole story, you know where to go. If you don't, PM me and I'll tell you.

Lets simply bring back the days of the old west, where everyone could make thier own laws, and enforce them as they see fit.

Laws are written by the people that WE put in place thru our votes. They are designed to keep everyone safe, or to protect property in most cases. We don't get to choose which ones we want to obey. If you think a law is unjust, fight to change it. Violating it means you have a total disregard for public safety, and the rule of Law that this country was founded upon.

Laws are needed in a civilized society. The problems with this country today, is the attitude of ME, ME, ME that many fools decided to have. No one wants to take responsibilities for themselves, they want to place the blame on everyone but themselves.

You made a desicion to speed. SHUT-UP, PAY THE FINE and move on with your pitiful life.

Why complain about anything when yiou are the one at fault, by your own admission? An Internet site is not the place to complain. Take it to your legislators, they MAKE the laws, and only they can CHANGE them.

Many of us don't like things that go one in thei country today, yet some of us simply keep fighting for change, by writting letters, talkinig to lawmakers, etc.. Bragging that you will violate the law again, makes you irresponsible. Ichoose to notdeal with irresponsible idiots...have a nice day.

[sm=popcorn.gif] All this self-righteous posturing! I used to work the Buell test rides at my local dealer. I used to hear the same type of discussions onthe 'evils' of sportbikes and all of that 'ilk'. The ignorance and close-mindedness was overwhelming. It was as if these folks have never went over the speed limit, never rolled a stop sign, never parked in a fire lane in front of the store 'for only a minute'. Yesterday, I was riding 75-80 in a 65 zone and was nearly being run over by traffic passing to the left and right of me. At one point I got behind a dump truck tossing debris. As I looked to the left, I saw the traffic was moving at a significantly faster rate. My choice was to ride behind the tuck and continue to get hammered by debris or twist up the wick and jump into the left lane and get around, post haste. Yes, I ended up going 90 before movingback over to let the following traffic go by. Guess I should have gotten a ticket and been hauled to jail as some of these posts would imply. In our PC social enviornment, folks are so quick to finger wag, but rarely at themselves. Heaven forbid their behavior come into question. At least Mike is willing to own his.

dynamike74, no surprise at the "reduced" fine, most people will gladly pay a 50% "discount" on something that was marked up 110% and feel that they got a bargain. Good to see that you'll still weave in and out of traffic with children strapped to you fenders when it is warranted.

the 'new' sig line pretty much sums it up for me

Your situation was a little different. You did what you needed to do to get in a more comfortable position to avoid a problem (if I read that correctly). Not really to much wrong with that. The conversation is more about people completely disregarding the law because they just feel like it. Everybody has broken some sort of law or traffic violation. We are human and it's going to happen. But it's some people's attitudes that say hey, "I think I can do 90+ mph safely on this stretch of roadway so I will". Even though the post speed limit in 65 or 70. That's a complete disregard of the law. and some think thats ok and they think they are not a safety hazard.

At high speeds anything can happen, I've seen a lot of crap happen when people did'nt think it would. Examples, they did not see the dip in the roadway (which caused the rearend to get light), they never saw that deer coming ect......... I was in a pursuit one time when I lost a tire at 100+ mph (my tires had just been recently replaced at that time), I almost lost it and I am trained to drive at high speeds. Anything can happen at high speeds even with a mechanically sound vehicle. I've seen just about every time of crash you can imagine and there is always a cause. High speed driving on a public roadway is dangerous, there are to many varibles that come into play.

If I stop someone I run their driving record, if they have several traffic violations than they will get a ticket because they have not learned yet. Here driving 90+ is reckless driving, the driver will be arrested, and their vehicle impounded. Not a fun situation. All I have ever asked people to do is use there heads, if the speed limit is 50 than it's 50. Drive safely, I have seen more people die than i care to remember, and yes i really do care for people even if I don't know them. I don't want to see anyone die and it's even harder when it involves children. That will mess with your mind some. I could care less about making the government money. I just want to see people slow down and respect others as well.
