I took delivery of a 2008 FXDC 105th Anniversary Edition about 10 days ago. Overall it is a great bike and I am sure in the long run I will be completely satisfied. However, when the sales rep was walking me through the bike he went to illustrate the security system functionality when he recalled that the software necessary for the system to operate was not yet available. Of course at the time I was anxious to get on the bike so I kind of shrugged it off. Nevertheless, we walked over to the service department and inquired with the tech who had "no idea" and had heard nothing as towhen it would be available. So now I have key fobs that are useless decorations until such time as the system is made operable.
How could this be? I know that this is not the first year for the security system so why the sudden difficulty? Was the R&D Department part of the last labor action in York? Why wasn't I advised of this prior to taking delivery? Any idea when/if the software will be available? Should I be angry or just attribute it to SOP for H-D? Is it just the Dyna's or the entire product?
This is my third purchase from this dealership (I receive a 15% discount on all parts for the next three years) so I'm more or less at their mercy.
One other complaint - I ordered the necessary hardware to install the detachable sissy bar and back rest which required five individual product #'s, only four of which were delivered. I started the job only to find out I was missing the turn signal relocation kit. Now that is comical!
The software is available. Tell your dealer to follow-up with Harley - or you can take your bike to another dealer and they can activate the key fobs. (This is the tactic I had to use with my dealer and "magically", they got their software download the next day.)
By the way, I took delivery of my FXDL on 8/15 and it was another week before my dealer got the software (although other dealers in the area had already gotten theirs). The same thing happened to me last year when I bought my '07.
Thanks for the responses Tow. I will check with the dealer tomorrow. Any comments are the other issues?
Thanks.
About the security system or the detachable hardware? With regards to the security system, it's not specific to Dynas. Another member on this board bought an 105A Ultra from the same dealer and he ended up going to another dealer for the FOB activation. In fact, I used his experience to get the fire lit under my dealer - they don't want to risk losing future service business.
As far as the hardware, don't know what to tell you. I have the rigid-mount stuff and the dealer installed it prior to my taking delivery.
Oh yeah - congrats on the FXDC! I like to kid about the "Duracell" colors but they do look sharp in person! You are going to post a pic soon aren't you? <wink wink nudge nudge say no more>
I would find another dealer ASAP.....and screw the 15% thing. sounds like these guys are letting you rot. At the very least call another dealer and tell them your from out of town, and would like to know if the 08' security system has any known issues. It could be your one of the only guys with the problem.....you the only one posting about it....????
Picked up my '08 FB last Tursday with the security system. Works fine for me. No issues what so ever. If your dealer is saying the software is not available yet, you can tell him (as PC as you want) that it's BS. The software is available. If they can get it here in Canada, I'm sure they can get it in the US.

Exactly what I was thinking......................
