Default Steering head grease

I know the service manual says to use "special purpose grease", but I am thinking that any "normal" grease gun cartridge should be fine. Am I correct, or full of pewp?

I picked up a tube from the dealer for about six bucks. It is regular wheel bearing grease, you can get it in the tube or in the tub.

it does matter somewhat,, as some grease will "melt" per say on hot days and run out making mess,,,

someone should chime in on what works best,,, I heard marine grease

That bearing done right may never need to be changed. It is a stout bearing for the job it does.Any good grease is fine.

I agree the Amsoil is what I use, Harley-Davidson wheel bearing & special purpose grease is good, also Bel-Ray grease works good. As for amount squirt it in using a grease gun at the grease fittinguntil you see it starting to come out at the bottom of the neck.

It also depends on the temps that you ride in. The dumb asses at a certain HD dealership here in vegas put in regular grease and it melted and melted and melted all down the forks. I finally had to pump it out with hi-temp wheel bearing grease. So yes it can make a difference.
