I have heard of doing this to make your horn louder. I'm not really into the idea of putting an air horn on my bike so this seems like a good option to maintain the low profile and getmore noise. I'm wondering how much louder it really is and what does it sound like? Is it really high pitched? Does anyone reccomend a certain brand thatis more durable to helpwithstand the abuse of pushing it with 12 volts? Thanks for any help!
I used to do that way back in my teenage years on some 55 Chevys. The horns were true 6 volt from cars from the 40s.One of those would sound like a freight train.I don't know if you even can get a 6 volt horn these days.
There are kits available w/compressor that will fit behind a
horn cover the size of a harleys.
I am in the market for one, and am sure I will find one at
Daytona Biketoberfest.
I don't care what my horn sounds like since I don't use it.I don't want to be looking for a horn button when I could be taking more evasive action.
That statement is one of the most logical, impressive and intelligent replies to any post Iâve ever read.
The last time I needed to use my horn in a hurry I turned my bright lights on [:@]Wasting valuable time trying to find/hit the horn button with my little finder is one way to an early grave.
Very well put my friend.

My brother and I had an American Flyer train set that ran on 12 volts. We hooked up a 6 volt horn form an old pickup direct to the transformer, and would crank it wide open. It was so loud it would make our ears hurt.
It never burnt out after years of use. We took a 12 volt battery and the horn and smuggled into tournament basketball games, and definitely had the loudest horn in the gymnasiums!
6 volt will work and be very loud and should last a long time my only question is why ? I never use my horn except when I am trying to dim my lights , would rather ride out of trouble than try to honk my way out.. JMHO......
