Im 21, live in new york, and own a 750 metric cruiser i got for a grand...
Nearly every single person my age owns a sportbike. I want to like them, I appreciate the performance they offer, but could never understand why so many people my age think thats Bas *** and a cruiser isn't.. haha. I mean, to me its...
plastic vs chrome
loud deep pipes vs ...a sewing machine
laid back vs hunched over grinding on your *****
I simply dont freakin get it... WHATS SO HOT ABOUT SPORT BIKES??? Im not trying to diss them out, I just dont get it.
To me I want I bike designed for riding... not racing. sportbikes are designed for racing, which is done or meant for the track. Cruisers are for the street. I dont care to zip around, but im at the age where I should like this ****...
Can someone shine some light on the sportbike for me cause I want to understand what it is that makes everyone my age get one but me. And I know its not money related.
Hey... I'm 22 and I have a 903 cc metric cruiser. I don't know anyone my age that has a cruiser. Everyone has sports bikes. It's crazy. I've always been into cruisers though. I used to ride on a custom chopper that was 100 cubic inch. That thing was sweet. Then I rented an 883 and a road king. I fell in love with cruisers. Almost a year ago, I was looking into cruisers and decided to buy one.
I do understand how people can get into the sports bike thing. It is very popular over here and it is more of a social thing rather than a riding thing from what I've seen.
I hopefully will own another cruiser in the next few years. I hope to get something bigger like a Raider, M109R, Victory, or a Rocker. Only time will tell and whatever these bikes look like in the next few years.
These days, I've seen that almost all mainstream cruisers are very dependable now-a-days.
Sure they can. Just like I did, you get a job and buy mostly complete busted up bike. Simple fact is most kids don't have the will. Where there's a will there's a way, you can just as easily buy a wrecked bike off the insurance company and with the aftermarket for these machines build a VERY nice bike, without the $10,000+ markup for a new bike.
In fact a lot of older riders don't know the difference either. I met a guy that recently spent $600 bucks getting fork seals done on a dyna. COME THE **** ON, dude didn't know enough to tell that mechanic that he was a ****ing idiot for even ATTEMPTING to charge that. I would have laughed at the guy and walked right back out the door. I about fell off my bar stool when this saw my Triumph and told me his aftermarket FORK seals cost him 600 bucks installed.
When did riding owning a bike become am excercise in credit fortitude? They say "freedom aint free," but damn.
I know there are a lot of guys on here that can strip down and rebuild their bikes. I'm not one of them (I wish I could), but even if you can't with a little common sense and a minimal amount of mechanical knowlege you can still get a descent bike. It may not win any beauty contest but who cares. If you really want a Harley, and you do a little research it's not that hard.

and a 2009 dyna low rider has an msrp of 15,099. compare the features of the 09 to the features of the 78. you get a lot more for your money now than you did then.
Stick with your Ninja - I think there's a rule that you have to be overweight and over 30 to ride a Harley... (welll, maybe over 40...)

to the dealership, and decided to see what's up. There were a few people there, doing whatever it is Harley riders do, and generally talking about their experiences. But there were no younger people there. None!
Why is it that Harley is not advertising to the younger generations? I got my ninja 250 b/c it cost only $3,600, looks great, gets 70 mpg, and still goes 0-60 in 5.75 seconds. I looked at the Harleys, and the best I could find was a Buell blast for 5k.
So, my questions are... are there any younger riders here?
What do you Harley riders think of younger riders?
Why doesn't Harley advertise more to younger riders?
If they can afford a sport bike with insurance, sure they can. Insurance is so ridiculous on 600+cc sport bikes they would have enough to buy a Harley outright after paying their insurance for a mere 7 years.
This is assuming $2,000/year insurance, 7 * $2,000 = $14,000
Keep in mind the "kids" in question will get raped on their rates. $2,000/year is actually pretty conservative.
