Who here belongs to the HD HOG Chapter ?

One more dumb question...

Do you wear the HOG patch..?
Do you have it on your jacket or vest ?
If so, where did you have it sewn on at ?
This is what they look like.

Hey Andy.............the wife and I belong to HOG and Ladies of Harley respectively. We have not yet joined a local chapter but we have lived here now for a year so I guess we may think about it.

Had been part of a Chapter for about 2 years though before moving.

Which are you in [if any] Bumpus or Boswells?
Boswell's .... Upper Cumberland (Cookville,Tn)

Thanks for your replies guys...

I suppose I should get a vest, but to be honest... a Leather vest just doesn't do anything for me.

I understand the purpose of leathers for protection, but a leather vest has no purpose other than to what...? Look cool ? LOL

I belong to both national and local chapters. I'm lucky in that my local group is extremely well run, and has a group ride every week, the motto being 'Ride To Eat'! Great bunch of people, I've made some great new friends, who have the added bonus of seeming to know all the best routes to ride, and places to eat.
On top of the purely social, we also do a lot of charity work, which I like getting involved in.

This weekend we are going on an overnight chapter ride to a small town about 150 miles north - for a Christmas Shopping/Watch Fireworks/Looooong Chapter ride thingy, which should be excellent.

Our chapter director likes it if people wear chapter colors to all chapter events, so I have a leather vest with a large HOG patch and rocker on the back, but I wear armored jackets to ride. I have a small chapter rocker and patch on the shoulders of my jackets - but I did that before I got a vest (as the small patches were cheaper), and mostly because I like the way it looked.

Local chapters are hit and miss from what I read on the forums. I'm extremely lucky. I signed up for the discount and with the intention of seeing what it was like, and found my local chapter rocked. All you can do is go down to one of the meetings and find out. I did just that, not knowing a soul and was very warmly welcomed.

One more thing about the vest. If its cold, its proably the best thing I own to wear under my jacket - its so warm, and I just have a cheapy $30 leather vest from the local indy store.

>>What is the difference in local and national?<<

FireHawk--

National membership comes free for one year if you get a brand new scoot. After that, it's an annual renewal. Local memberships are typically associated with dealerships. You must belong to the National group to join a local.

You can go to the HD website and follow the links to find a local chapter, or just check with a nearby dealer.

Hope this helps.
Thanks Vic! I belong to both. I just got my first HOG magazine yesterday. Man, it would be nice to go on some of those rides.

Ok guys... I have an associate HOG membership, ( soon to expire) as well as a LOH... & understand a Full HOG membership will be given when I buy my bike. I didn't consider a chapter, as I've not yet decided which town I'm buying my bike at, in the spring...
All dealerships in this area, have the 'attend-a-chapter-for-discounts" program, making the HOG card useless for purchases. So.. other than joining one to get a discount, why else would I want to? ( Nearest dealer, is a 2 hr drive)

see places you might not have on your own

Went to my first meeting last night. Good group of people. I'm not sure that I'm up for all the activities, I just dont have that kind of time in my life.
Seems like they have fun, and was a very friendly crowd.

Hey Andy,

I'm a member of both national and local. From what ive heard theres good and not so good local chapters. The one I belong to (Central Texas ) had a luke warm reputation the year before I joined. But the guy that headed up the chapter busted his *** to turn things around and the dealership really put forth an effort to support the chapter too. Yeah ya get your card punched, but for every 10 punches ya get 25% off a purchase. We ride almost every weekend usually saturday and sunday. Folks from all walks of life with one thing in common harleyitis. We do charity events, but mostly its all about da rides. Vest and a patch, put it wherever ya want it. You'll see plenty of them at the meetings and rides. It can get a bit tedious riding in formation but it depends on the size of the group. Riding in the back of the group is generally safer. Only thing that I disagree about is the guest rider deal, you can invite a friend along but they must be on a harley. Although our chapter looks the other way on this one.

Member of both national and local , not sure abou this but I think to be a local you have to be a national, anyway attend some meetings , for the most part it is a pretty nice thing to be involved in , meet lots of folks. I to have vest with patches but, rarley wear it , just not my thing, but I think some of them a pretty cool.

I just got my membership from the national HOG and have sent in apps for two local clubs (why two? because they are both very close to where I live) ... I just looked at the calendar for one of the groups (Black Mountain club) and they have three rides in January and three rides in February ... I can't believe it ... This is FANTASTIC! Have no idea what the rest of the year will look like, but WOW, what a great group! So, if the folks are half-way nice (and I bet they are) ... I'm jazzed! and, and, I have the So Nevada Club, too ... yippee!

sorry, but this just got me excited .... and I had to tell someone, anyone ...
