seems most people on the forum are really into thinking they own the rode and nobody else should use any of it any place near them. ride your own bike if you catch up to people ride with them or pass if a group catches you ride with them or let them pass who the hell cares only thing I would not do is put myself in the middle of another group ...
Speaking of middle of a group, what would you do if you were at a stop sign, turning the same was as a big group (or they were turning, doesn't matter)? If the're all stopping seperately that means its your turn to go, but I agree with you, I don't want to be in the middle of some strange group.
There's not much difference when your walking on the street or driving on the road or walking down the hallway at the mall ....You will just have to use your own good judgement. There is no quick save answer to this question that covers all scenarios. Sometimes yay ... Sometime nay ... You will just have to feel it out.
If i'm on a benifit run, then sometimes you get tucked into the middle of a group, for me thats generally the group that is riding with purpose, but not racing point to point. Outside of a 4000 bike benifit/poker run, I'm generally a nomad and perfer to be alone, or 2-3 bikes max . If by chance conditions position me inside a group of bikes, I'm respectful, but try to exit (generally falling back and away from the group). I don't know there skill level and they certainly don't know mine either. Bad mix IMHO because I believe a group ride is one where people want to ride stress free. Just my 2c
I know for me, if I am on the freeway solo and another bike or bikes pull up, no problem..Safety in numbers...That would be the same if I came up on a group, I hang back but again for safety and numbers...Any other time, like most everyone here, if I did not start with them or know themI do not ride with them...
You might be a little careful doing that. I guess it would be the same as if you were to start walking with a group you didn't know. They may be with a club, or headed to a meet that you were not welcome at. They could even be heading out to join the local gay biker parade (sure sign is fingerless gloves). You never know bro.
Yeah, that actually happened to me once. I was riding solo and fell into a group of about five or six other bikers. Next thing I knew, my fingerless gloves, road captain hat, and chaps are nowhere to be found while I'm getting pounded in the azz.
Wheew! That was really a bad day.

See it all the time here. As a rule, I keep a respectful distance but close enough to enjoy the comfort of safety with numbers till we part trails. I look and see their seperation distance and I double it or moreso that theres no crowding their space. If a group comes up on me I move to the far right and signal them clear passage by me. I would never consider busting the middle of a group for any reason.
The group usally will be in therightlane. I wait till it is safeand pass the group on the left. If they are dressed in pirate attirebe careful not to stick to long they might ask you to pay the local hog fee.
