Who has actually road tested their bikes at the dealership prior to buying? I was able to ride mine for a few miles, but from what I understand some dealerships do not actually allow you take the bike out, am I wrong?Just wondering since some folks feels that he should have been able to do that.
You're absolutely right. At the dealershipI work at (and at most dealerships), we have 2 demo harleys, 2 yamaha's, 2 honda's and 3 buell's. Those are the only bikes you can test ride, but you can't put miles on any other bike until you've bought it.

1600 miles on my 08 RG and not a single Biatch, .........yet.
Best Harley I have owned.

Doug

BTW: No test rides around here either. Dealer has some demo bikes you can ride but if you are buying a new one you cant ride it until its yours.

I didn't ride the bike I bought, but I did get to ride a dealer's demo FLHX for about 100 miles before deciding on a touring bike.

Why the hell did you buy the bike in the first place? Didnt you test ride it? Foolish......
I don't know aboutthe dealers in your area, but around here your first test ride is after you've bought the bike not before. You can rent one but that tells you jack **** about the one you're going to buy unless you're just trying to decide between models. Also if I'm buying a new bike I sure as hell don't want one that has been on test rides.

I refused to buy mine in June until I test road the bike. Salesman had to call the owner for approval. Some dealers want you to rent a similar bike to test ride, but my dealer discontinued the rental program. The test ride is what sold me.

The only issue I have with it is that sometimes when it comes time to leave a traffic light after a minute or so of idling, the throttle seems totally non-responsive and it sounds and feels like I am trying to take off in third gear or something.

I had the same thing happen, I thought I must have forgot to downshift (getting old ya know) it only happened a couple of times in 4000 miles so far. Might be something worth whatching, maybe throttle posistion sensor?

I was able to ride the "demo" ultra home to show the wife! Was told to have it back in an hour.. I am somewhat of an older guy and gray.... Think they felt I had already swollowed the hook so what's the harm.. Have noticed that younger shoppers have a harder time at the dealership... not right but that's the way it seems to be!
