I have a SE Fat Boy, which comes with 2" longer foot boards. This means that a lot of the engine guard models will notclear the foot boards,on my bike. I have read where the Mustache model will work.
My first choice would have been the Kuryakyn ergo guards, where they have an optionalmounting kit, forrunning lights and are set up with holes to run wires through them. I read somewhere thatthis modelwont clear my foot boards.
The reason I would add an engine guard, would beso I could attach running lights. This along with the headlight would achieve the triangle light pattern, that makes the bike more visible to oncoming traffic.
It may also helpto save some paint and chrome, if I were to drop the bike in the garage,etc.
My questions are:
Has anyone ran wires through the guard and attached lights to the Mustache?
Are the rubber foot pads easy removable?
If anyone knows of any aftermarket engine guard that will fit an SE Fat Boy, I would appreciate the information.

I have 3 inch extensions on my floorboards and this works fine. I'm not sure though if you would have enough length to mount lights on them. I installed them mainly for the pegs so I could stretch out more on highway rides.
Call him up. I talked to Bob when I called and he's the owner of the biz. He makes these and I bet he can answer all your questions. He might even have another option if they don't work for you. Great personal service with him and the bars are top notch quality made here in the US worth the money imo.
I just ordered the Mustache engine guard for my Road King. I haven'treceived it yet, but once I check it out I can let you know about the foot pads, etc.
I just installed the HD Mustache guard on my Heritage and there is plenty of room from the end of floor board to the guard. As you can see the HD Guard is angled foward and is below the bottom of the floor boards. Don't know how much difference there is in the Heritage setup and the SE Fat Boy, but hopefully the pic will give you some idea.
The step pads are glued to the top of the Mustache engine guard and would be difficult to remove. The standard HD fog lights will not work on the guard, so you would have to install Kury's or Motolights on the bike for additional lighting.

Drill a hole where the pads were removed, on top, big enough to get nuts and washers onto the attachment studs for the lights.Put the rubber pads back on to cover the open holes. Then fish the wire up the inside, to the top part of the bar, up to where it attaches to the frame. I was wondering if anyone else has done anything similar to this?
The whole purpose is to get the proper trianglespacing with the lighting. The Mustache engine guard just providesa place to mount the lights.

Have you thought about those moto lights? They attach to your downtubes, and I hear they are great. Plus, lifetime on the lamps. You might want to check them out, as an option.
