I know it's really one of the few solutions we have, but what about the choppers they've got? Can't the chopper just follow the criminal and then the cops get him when he stops? There's no point in directly pursuing someone at high speeds -- on the groud.
That's what I don't get. What's the point of pursuing a criminal at high speeds? Have you ever really thought about that? I mean, best-case scenario is that you catch the criminal, but that's usually rare. What usually happens is either a wreck, damage to other people's property, or the cops can't keep up. It's actually really dumb for cops to "hot pursuit" a criminal...really dangerous.

I have mixed feelings about high-speed pursuits. It sucks when someone is killed or injured during a high-speed pursuit that wasn't "worth it" in the first place. The problem is that yout don't know if it's worth it until it's all over. Why do people run if all they did was run a stop sign? Did they just get through killing someone or robbing a bank? Nobody knows what's going on when a chase starts. If the police called off a chase because it's not "worth it" and that person ends up killing someone down the road, is the police department at fault for not stopping the threat?
I know that's reading alot into it, but you have to wonder why anyone would run in the first place.
Also, it takes time to call in a helicopter. They can't just magically appear the second a chase starts.

jc denton,
Leo's shouldnt "always" chase a suspect. As well as Leo's shouldnt "never" chase a suspect. They do the best they can to weight the risks.Sometimes they are wrong, most times they are right.
Scenerio: If someone walked up to your family and gunned them down, then ran off and jumped in a car. Would you want the officers to chase them? Or just let them go....
Its all dangerous, but whats more dangerous? Letting the crimiinal go, or risk chasing them...
