Hello everyone. I have just jumped into the world of Harleys as I bought a 2004 sportster xl1200r. Believe it or not, i have always ridden sport bike, but I've made the switch and loving it so far. Anyway, since i just got my new bike, of course I dont want people messing with it or trying to steal it. I was wondering if any of you have used the Scorpio i500 alarm or can recomend a different alarm. Specifically I want to know about installation because space seems very limited, especially to put the module where someone can't mess with it. Also, do you think there is any point in using an alarm anyway? Can anyone with half a brain just cut the battery cable and backup battery and take the bike anyway (assuming perimeter sensor is not used because it would probably go off all the time if it was on)? Any other security tips would be good, especially about the sportster. Right now I just use the steering lock and a massive 6 ft chain around the front wheel. I am living in the city (houston now, philadelphia soon) but not in the ghetto or anything.

Alarms are a waste of good money!
Have you EVER seen anyone react with anything other than disgust when an alarm goes off. I have never seen anyone contact the authorities, most just get pissed at the noise. Buy insurance, there is no way to keep properly motivated individuals from stealing your bike if they want it.

well I'm not so sure about that. The Scorpio alarm has a pager that beeps or vibrates and tells you exactly what set it off (perimeter, shock, someone standing it up, etc)

Harley_Dude is right, after talking to a Volusia sheriff at Biketoberfest, buy a good cable lock system. This sheriff told me they have no reports of bikes stolen with a cable locksystem.

Been looking at the Scorpio too. I like the pager feature the most. Part of the installation is the antenna which needs to be as high and vertical as possible for range. Not sure about that one but I have a bagger with more room to play than you do. Do you have room in the headlight housing to mount the module? Just an idea. Go to the Scorpio sight and e-mail them your questions about the cutting wires, etc. and let us know what they say. Chain around the frame and good lock would be hard to beat but carrying one is a real pain for me.
