Default Buying Harley

Has anyone heard of buying a Harley from one dealer and having it delivered to another dealer. In other words, buying a Harley from a dealer out of my area and having it delivered to a dealer closer to me?

Not that it couldn't be done (though I never heard of it), I would be reluctant to do it. Dealing with the dealer taking delivery would be awkward at best and no telling what kind of attitude and service problems you would run into. I just don't think I would chance it. No way can I see it being a pleasant experience.

How about flying to the selling dealer and bringing the bike back home. It would be a neat adventure and how often do you get to take a nice ride in only one direction. Would the selling dealer be willing to pay your air fare out to get it? Some do. I bought my used bike 1700 miles away and figured the cost of retrieving was no more than the cost of a neat adventure/vacation.

I do know that some dealers in my area do dealer trades some times. In other words, They will find the bike you want and possibly contact others to see if they have it

I've heard of people flying and buying. The dealer closest to me doesn't have a very good selection. Seems like they add every accessory possible and then you pay for it. I've seen some dealer's online who seem to have better selections. Plus, there appear to be some who have a better OTD price. I had just wondered about getting a bike from an out of area dealer. Is it possible to buy and have it shipped? Has anyone done that?

GM calls it a "Courtesy Delivery"
The delivering dealer gets a fee for their trouble.

Dont know if Harley does the same thing.

See if the dealer you are buying from will knock off the plane ride price from the bike and pick you up at the airport.

I would think the delivering dealer would charge you dealer prep, so he'd make a quick buck anyway. Also, I could see this scenario take place if you ordered a bike and then ended up moving out of the area before it was delivered to the dealer you ordered it from. I'm sure it can be done.

Good point. I'd imagine the delivering dealer will want something for their efforts.

Happens all the time with overseas purchases with pickup in the US at your chosen dealer.

When buying domestically, dealers usually will locate the bike you want, if they do not have it, and swap one of their bikes with the other dealer and get yours for you. Does that make sense? Anyway, several dealers in Texas have searched the computer, located a specific bike, then traded one of their bikes for the other. Happens very frequently.
