Another reason to ride a fatboy. And someone mentioned chain lube. A trick I learned for that was to take a rag over the chain after applying the lube to keep it from splattering everywhere, not that it matters anymore with a belt. [8D]
I heard of a method but haven't tried yet: get them really clean, use "luster lace" strips or something to wax. Then after every ride or weedend, or trip; use soap, simple green or something that won't remove the wax and with a quick brushing, rinse, dry orride dry,and they stay shinny. I let the brake dust build up too long and it stays on in between and on the inside of the spokes where it is hard to reach.
Well after reading another post that said don't use Eagle 1 on MC tires I take it all back. Don't trust me.
really, Eagle 1 worked great on my Caddy's wirewheels..... for 4 yrs, I never had any problems...... learn something new everyday.
Eagle 1 is the best I've found to clean wheels & tires. But someone had a post saying the bottle said "don't use on motorcycle tires" and wondered why. Someone else wrote and said it was because it made the tire slick. I've used it a lot and never had a problem but I didn't want someone else to use it and have a problem.
no one belives me when i tell them... but my @$#!! is CLEAN! and i use shout... same shout you use when you get a stain on your pants... a trick this old guy told me when he picked up his bike... so i started using it and it is AWESOME!!!
I worried about them for a while. Now I clean at 'em. They're getting blacker and blacker where I can't reach with the rag. I sprayed some S100 on them and they're a little cleaner now. I can't see 'em from the seat when I'm ridin'. Maybe I'll take a longer stab at cleaning them one day. Then again, maybe not.
Yeah, I've pretty much given up on my spokes also. The factory chrome plating or galvanizing flaked off pretty quick and now they are nasty gray looking. I guess they've been like this for about 4 years now- it only took about a year for the plating to flake off. One of these days, I might have them replaced with stainless steel spokes. Maybe this spring- I need new tires anyway, might as well do it all at once when they have the wheel off the bike.
Mine get waxed once a year. I pull the front wheel and wax it on the bench. My back wont take bending over that long. Solid rear wheel is easy maintain.
