Back in '70 a bud who owned a sprortser had to have one of the new Kawasaki 500 2 strokes. He got one and apparently it scared the sh*t out of him. He wanted to know if it was as fast as the HD. I had a rep of riding the **** out of any bike I got my hands on, so he asked me to ride the Kaw and we would race out on the local racer road. He got the jump and had me til I quit slipping the clutch of the line. 5 snicksof the gears later I had to slow for the upcoming sweeper after 1/2 mi. I topped out over 125 mph and had time to light up a cig while I waited for him. He was fried that the HD was so much slower but sold the Kaw, he literally couldn't ride it cause the handling was so scary. I loved the speed and accelleration but it was a handful on any(especially slick) corners.
With only one exception, there always is a faster bike!
I'm going to jump in with the minority and say HD could do better with the engine output, but chooses not to. Why? Cubic inches translates to cubic dollars at the parts counter. Just look at the percentage of owners who modify their engines. How many actually keep their bikes completely stock? How about a poll....I would say that if 50% of owners perform some type of engine performance enhancement, then the answer is obvious. Many may say they are happy with the stock performance, but still perform engine mods. Why?Sothey can be 'more happy' with the performance. It still points to the same thing-although many say they are satisfied with their stock engines, their spending habits beg to differ. They want more.
I feel like dr. phil "nobody is listening to each other!" LOL
Right answer:
Don't buy new, period! That is what I will continue to do so I don't get pi$$ed buying a WAAYY underpowered H-D. Let somebody else gets screwed purchasing engine upgrades from "The Man" otherwise known as the MotoCo. Than you will win on both counts: 1) you get to ride a Harley and 2) you get the performance that should come stock.
Let the flames begin but I am one person that loves HD but know that they are ripping off their faithful customers.
All this coming from someone who doesn't own a harley,, old or new!!!
Are you F-ing kidding me??!! The guy goes on and on like an expert and doesn't even have a Harley??!! What an a-hole!![&:]
Why is my 1992, POS, barely running, GKP 1400 faster, pulls harder, revs higher, than my 2007 FXDL?

Biggest scam of the century...give em enough power to get em home and then sell em the parts to finish the job for $5000 or more.
