Not doubting you. Tuning in this environment is unique. Other conditions can always be a factor in the mountains...like if it was hot that day for instance.

That seems a little extreme. I haven't had any power issues with the 96ci going over those same roads. Although I'll admit that an 88 barely feels like it will go over 65 period...imo.

Well, that's what happened. It was definitely sucking wind. It had just been serviced, and it was running fine otherwise.

I feel like dr. phil "nobody is listening to each other!" LOL

The newer "larger" H-D's are WAAYY underpowered for an engine their size. Why? Is that such a bad question to ask H-D? Could it be they know people that purchase their bikes and feel it is necessary todrop 2-4k+ in engine upgrades to increase the torque/power of their bikes which will make their local stealerships more money?

Lame answers from the brainwashed sheep:
Regulations from the f'n EPA!! It's the man sticking it to us!
Answer:
BS. Air-cooled jap bikes seem to crank out the torque/HP that routinely embarass the HD models in moto tests in every magazine except "American Rider" (Oops forget they don't cover the competition)! I forgot, Victory bikes crush our bike of choice stock, too, so I can't even purchase that magazine without regularly being reminded how underpowered HD is.

Lame answer from the brainwashed sheep 2:
You buy a H-D to look cool not drive fast. Buy a f'n rice burner if you want torque/HP! (Excuse me while I drop 4k+ to increase my torque/HP numbers)

Many see through the hypocrisy of this lame answer from the H-D brainwashed sheep. If you really feel that way, put on louder pipes and leave everything else alone...problem is deep down inside you don't. The first time a 88 800cc Suzuki Intruder dusts your a$$ you are at the H-D shop forking over your money to "the man".

Right answer:
Don't buy new, period! That is what I will continue to do so I don't get pi$$ed buying a WAAYY underpowered H-D. Let somebody else gets screwed purchasing engine upgrades from "The Man" otherwise known as the MotoCo. Than you will win on both counts: 1) you get to ride a Harley and 2) you get the performance that should come stock.

Let the flames begin but I am one person that loves HD but know that they are ripping off their faithful customers.

I like my Harley as is. If I wanted something fast, I would have bought one. I've had fast import bikesand a hot rodHarleys and now, I don't want a bike like that. So, If thats what you want, GO!, get one.Don't blame Harley for ripping off there customers.

I was pretty disappointed with my stage 1 mods when I headed up some mountain passes at 11K ft and the bike would barely do over 65 mph. I am satisfied with the way it runs now.
That's strange. My Stage I '07 RKC didn't have any problems in Colorado. We were riding two up with full saddle bags and a full T-Bag with a top roll. I've got a SE/AC, V&H Ovals and a PCIII/USB. Maybe you need to tune your fuel management system.

Umm, you do know how to down shift don't you?

I mean, I can hit 65mph in second gear for Lord's sake!
I mentioned earlier- this was at about 11,000 feet and probably over a 10% grade. Less oxygen up there, bikes run different despite EFI. Somewhere around Steamboat springs Colorado. That's wonderful you can hit 65 mph in second gear. Do you know how to up shift?
Interesting...ain't doubting your experience, but my dad rides those roads quite often on an 05 Wide Glide and has never had an issue breakin 65.
