I'm heading to Cost Rica for a little R&R in February and I noticed there is a place that rents Harleys in the capitol, San Jose. Has anybody ridden down there? How are the roads? Can anyone recommend a good day trip out of San Jose?
I just got back from there a couple of weeks ago. I thought Houston drivers were bad!
In Costa Rica, there are very few street signs, so if you get off the main road & get lost you are screwed. Stop signs....They don't pay any attention to them.
With that said, once you get out of San Jose, the scenery is great. Go West to a little surfing town called Jaco. Its about a 3 hour trip with lots of mountain terrain & switchbacks.
The attached photo was taken just outside of Jaco. The Pacific Ocean is on the other side of the mountain to the right http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k1.../CostaRica.jpg
Jaco is a good place . I'm headed back in april . You could not pay me to ride a bike in CR . I will ride almost any to . Not that place . CR is one of the nicest places I have ever been . The food is incredible ! So is the fishing .
Haven't been to CR in about 10 years but I remember huge pot holes on many of the roads. Also, many of the places you might want to visit are on dirt roads.
I livedC.R twice for 6 month, riding there is very dangerous because 90% of the bikes there are dirt bikes. the cops ride dirt bikes. and i have had a few people there try to run me off the road just because it a harley.. my own harley no rental. Sorentalof harley will cost you so much. never mind the insurnace. you could be taken for a ride,so read your insurnace carefullyit's not worth for you..i rode all over the country. but you have to be so heads up. yes roads can be good then out of this world super crappy. As for jacoyou will not stay there long!!! Iitraveled with friends that knew the roads very well... so if you don't havea ridingBuddy in C.R you can be inaload of trouble. the west coast have the best roads if one want to call them that.
I have been there many times and would not ride a bike there under any circumstance.I am not sure I would even drive a car .There are things I would ride though!!! Be sure and vist the Hotel Del Rey!
