Why Harleys Suck!!
When did all this divisiveness start.
), but he!l ride your own bike and leave everyone else the funk alone. If you hate another bike and can't stand someone to ride a certain brand, then you are not a true biker, you are a poser. Posers are on both sides of the HD fence. That HD hater was making an idiotic comparison, you can't compare a sport bike to a Harley, just can't do it. A sport bike is all about performance, and thus has to keep ahead of their competition by continual improvement. Cruisers are defined by Harley Davidsons, all other makes try to copy Harley in one way or another, with the exception of Triumph and their line of retro bikes.
He should compare his sport bike to a Ducati, then try the same argument with that as he dose with a Harley. What is funny is that little Ducati with 40k bikes produced per year has beaten the big 4 in racing numerous times over the years and this year has beaten them at the highest level of motorcycle racing MotoGP. Ducati is the 2007 champ, and Stoner (the world champ) won almost every race, it wasn't even close. Ducati handed Honda, Yamaha and the others their heads.
That said....if I do end up with a Harley...It will bebecause it felt "right "to me...
I'm honestly teetering between a newer Sportster 1200R and one of Triumphs "Modern Classics" line...
Why ?
They are both GOOD motorcycles(for commuuting and having SOME fun playing on a back road..)
Both mod well.
I do see his point a bit about selling a "lifestyle" or whatever....
...but....guess what..someone is making money doing that....year after year after year......
Making money ont he ability to sell something IS waht America is about. HD has achieved alot in the marketing dept..if thats how they make their money..so be it.
REAL and informedmotorcyclists know what they will be getting if they purchase an HD....so if an HD is what they want..they'll buy it...
Did HD use to have a reliability problem? Sure they did...but so did Triumph....and Ducati, and everyone else...
and furthermore, I wouldn't go back...Why?
Were those others more comfortable, no
Were those others more reliable, no
Were those other tougher, no
Were they faster, one was the fastest on the market, it was ok for awhile, big deal, good luck keeping it tuned
Were they cheaper, you get what you pay for
When you want the best you get it, until then you put it down
But trade off a bit in style....but hen again..style is int he eye of the beholder...performance can be measured....
That's why alot of the mudfights start...
I personally don't care what you ride. If you're having a good time and not hurting anyone else, more power to you. We ride what we ride because we choose to. We all have reasons, but that's the neat thing, they are our's.
What I do find interesting is that most of the conversations I have with metric riders (foreign cruiser riders) usually gravitate to them telling me that they will eventually get a Harley.
Mike
..the flipside to the Jap prices..is they often handle a little better and are often more powerful.....
But trade off a bit in style....but hen again..style is int he eye of the beholder...performance can be measured....

The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
He made that web site for the same reason that whenever I meet someone on a really nice non-HD cruiser they always explain why they didnt buy a Harley...
It always comes out as an appology!
As for non-hdfolk who slam Harley, I just can't imagine hating something so much that has absolutely no effect on me.
