Default When to trade-sell

I am wondering from the membership here when is it time to sell or trade, is it miles or age or something else that pushes you to sell your bike. I would like to know what the trigger point is for you. As an example 5 years old, 15,000 miles, something more bada$$, or do some of you like what you have and you’ll be holding on to it for as long as you can with or without modifications. What so you?

I don't think I'll ever trade or sell my WG. However I might add a Road King Custom to the stable. I just don't think I'll be able to part with my first HD.

Totalled my roadking and used the insurance money to buy a deluxe. Didn't really have a choice.

For me it was some of the little things and updates the Motor Co. did to the "baggers" that made me want to buy a new RK in 2005. Sold my '99 RKC last year in the Spring and purchased an '05 RK. I wanted the upgraded FI system and the dual piston brake calipers. I got sick of cleaning spoke wheels and wide white walls. Plus I wanted the "lockable" fiberglass bags.

OK...maybe they were all just excuses...I just wanted a new RK...is that so wrong???? [sm=yeahsmile.gif]

In my case I would try and find new ways to make the bike stand out to make a statement. Sometimes different paint or perhaps different wheels for starters. I for one will probably hang onto my wideglide and if I want something more for long distance, I'll buy another bike.

When you are no longer happy with your current ride, or if you find yourself trying to turn it into a different bike, then it's time to sell and get the bike that fits your needs. People age, riding needs change, financial problems happen, bikes wear out and new bikes come out every year. There are a bunch of reasons to sell or trade. I've had the best luck as a seller during August and Sept. I used to think spring was the best time to sell, but it seems like a lot people decide to buy towards the middle/end of the riding season.

I love the bike I now have and I can't ever imagine wanting to sell it.

I bought my first harley about 10 months ago. I was planning on starting out on the Sporty end and working my way up. Ended up buying a FXST liked the bike, but as the wife and I spent time on it I started to buy things to make it more touring friendly. Bought a sundowner seat, a different set of bars, and a windsheild for it. It was good for day rides. But the forward foot position really caused leg pain on long rides.

A couple of months ago our finances got freed up and we decided to go ahead and get a touring ride. On the money invested and trade in we lost money. But I dont regret it in the least. We now have a really nice FLTRI. put a sundowner touring seat on it right off the bat. Did the stage one upgrade with a SERT and a set of slip ons. Planning on a cam and punchout to either a 95 or a 97-98 bore sometime next year. The glide is great as is, I'm just a gear head.

I guess my advice is if you can swing it is get the bike you want. trading in will usually cost ya. better to sell to an individual, then go buy what ya want.
