Disillusion
That's all good. Soon it's your turn in the barrel.
[sm=itsok.gif]Don't Feel bad bro I have posted a few tech questions and got the same response. My take is there are alot of nu-bee riders just by some of the questions that are asked that don't know the answers or you have people on this site that just don't give a **** which you can tell by there responses to your question.
Jesus Christ in a go-kart you've answered the million dollar question!
Folk I’m sorry to say, that I m disappointed with my response to an elementary install question. (Chrome bolts axle kit) on a rear axle.
More then 50 members reviewed my posting in two separate areas (soft tail and Technical) however, I got only one response. (Thanks)
My Disillusion comes in here: If I had posted what sears jack to buy (red or yellow) For you thread highjackers I know yellow is the best buy, or how and when I should wave., however, ask what I thought is simple tech question, and I get complete silent, not even a smiley face, (thanks in advance for the smiley face or any other icon with or without a face.)
Anyone else feel the same?
I Just purchased the Rear Axle Adjuster and Cover Kit (43429-02) for my Deuce.
The direction states, that the Axle has to be removed, is this accurate?
It was seems to me, that I could installthe left side and then the right side, without removing the axle.
Thoughts??
BTW my exhaust system is already off.
Now looking at the photo and not owning a Softail since 1993 I would think that this is a complete no brainer. As far as " It was seems to me, that I could installthe left side and then the right side, without removing the axle".
I will attempt to help you if you can bare with me here. I did not answer you because I do not go to the Softail section, I have no interest in that model. I personally do not wish the ride and design qualities this model has for myself. I have owned a brand new 1985 Softail Super Custom and a brand new 1993 Heritage. They do look good however. With that said, and looking at the photo without the benefit of the directions,
I would; [ol][*]Bend a coat hanger 1” from the end after you grind the one end to a point. Straighten out the coat hanger so it is straight as you can. Go to Home Depot & get a brass barrel or make one on the lathe and drill and tap a set screw perpendicular to the hole where the coat hanger fits through.[*]Measure the center of the axle to a horizontal measuring point somewhere on the frame or swing arm. Mark that point with tape or other method. If your drive belt is properly tensioned, use this mark. If the belt needs to be adjusted do so properly as per HD Manual. With that measurement you have on the drive side from center of axle to reference point, transfer the mark over to the brake side of the rear fork/center of axle.[*]Remove the axle adjuster bolts and you have to remove the axle by the photos but I do not have the benefit of the instructions. If you do not know the axle is a bolt than put down the wrenches and step away from the bike. Maybe that is the reason nobody helped you for your own safety?[*]Remove and replace the axle adjusters washers (the little round chrome thingies with the square chunk taken out of them).[*]R&R the axle washer (the little round thingie {one required}) which will probably go on the axle nut side of the axle. This nut will have to go on the end of the axle and the nut should be on the exhaust side.[*]Make sure that you insert the axle in from the opposite side of the exhausts unless you have fabricated true duels so the exhausts are on both sides.[*]With the chrome parts back on the axle in place of the exact non-chrome parts, the hardw
