Default Coast to Coast - Rt.66 vs Hwy 50?

Since I live near St. Louis, I'll have to be strategic to plan a coast to coast ride. Does anybody have any words of wisdom to recommend taking Rt. 66 vs Hwy 50?

If you plan on taking Route 66, invest in some good maps because there are sections that are no longer there. Literally...POOF! Gone! There is a foundation that supports Route 66 and you could do a Google search for more information if you wanted to quickly find out which parts are closed or not. From what I know Route 66 is intact roughly 80% give or take. Soyou'll need to divert yourself off and back on in areas, but you'll get to enjoy most of the scenery along the way.

If you plan to motor West, travel my way and take the highway that's the best...get your kicks on Route 66.

Safe Journey!

Nate, That's my dream ride as well. I want to ride 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica. I live across the river from you, maybe we'll meet up on Rt.66 some day.

I remember seeing a shoe tree riding through Oregon a couple years ago. Out in the middle of nowhere.

Well, one thing to consider.....Rt. 66 does not go coast to coast. Rt.40 is called the national highway, so maybe you could use that road.

This is the kind of good stuff that makes this forum valuable to me. On days when riding is out of the question, a good action movie (Clear and Present Danger currently)checking in with you guys, and cruising the internet on thelaptop is great stuff. Thanks everybody, keep the info coming please.
